While I'm a fan of novels and NaNoWriMo, not everyone is going to take part in the challenge. Today, for this newsletter, it's a reminder that one can enter and support contests during November if they don't want to write a novel. One thing that tends to drop off around this time of year, due to many reasons that include NaNo and holidays, is online participation. It's hard to write 50,000 words of a novel in November and enter shorter contests, so that is understandable. But what about the people not writing novels?
Well, if that is you then here is the answer: enter contests and activities on WDC in November?
Or not. If that's not your thing or interest, it's okay if you don't. However, I know many of us are still hosting activities and contests this month. I have one that I manage that is weekly and there is a new prompt every week. Writer's Cramp will have a prompt every day, whether someone enters or not (though definitely no novel entries there as the limit is 1,000 words for story entries). There are many things going on in November that are not novel related, even though us NaNoWriMo peeps do tend to take over in some sense with how much we talk about the challenge (when we should be writing).
Make sure to check out:
If you enter a contest or plan to, let me know in the comments. I'm actually crazy this year. Aside from a week long vacation, I'm in a challenge to enter 1 contest a week and I'm planning 100k on a novel for NaNoWriMo. It's a bit much but we'll see how it goes. The question is: what are you writing?

Not taking part in NaNoWriMo? What will you be writing instead?
Last time I had this newsletter, I discussed when to comment or make suggestions with contests or activities. Here are the two comments that were sent in about that topic:

Thank you for addressing this subject. As the manager of "Contest Central Station" I try to review every new contest. I often offer suggestions in my review and encourage them to contact me if they'd like direct and private communication. Running a first time contest is a lot of work and those new at it are generally appreciative and accepting of any suggestion whether they use them or not. It means they are garnering interest in their contest. Most people who do offer advice are simply trying to help. Taking offense to that is counterproductive.
"Contest Central Station" actually does have a discussion forum specifically aimed for this purpose. "Invalid Item" is a great place to get feedback and advice from other experienced contest hosts.

Great tips, Dawn.
Most contests and activities end up with disappointment for lack of clarity and communication. Thank you for this.
