About This Newsletter

It is the dim haze of mystery that adds enchantment to pursuit.
~ Antoine Rivarol

For me, time is the greatest mystery of all. The fact is that we're dreaming all the time. That's what really gets me. We have a fathomless lake of unconsciousness just beneath our skulls.
~ Anthony Hopkins

Letter from the editor

When you least expect it, you'll come up with something, a twist in the story, no one thought of before. Well, maybe they thought of it but not a single soul wrote about it and here you are, a writer, and this idea comes to you out of nowhere. You know you'll write that down - even if you get to use it later. Writing isn't always just sitting down and typing away. Your brain won't give you a best seller on the spot because you're a dedicated person who's willing to invest time into writing. No. Things don't happen like that. Ideas come when you least expect them.

I stumbled upon the above mentioned quote from Anthony Hopkins and it made me realize that not everyone has that fathomless lake filled with dreams. Rather sad. I've always wondered how people get bored. It's unimaginable to me. My guess is, lack of imagination. Boredom doesn't exist in my dictionary. How about yours? Dreams come easily enough, but they don't form that well on paper. What about you? Can you dream up something and automatically sit down and write everything in detail?

That saying, If you're going to dream, dream big, just doesn't work for me. Everything in moderation is something I'm more capable in achieving. It doesn't mean that I can't achieve the big dream, it just means that I know not to reach too far before I've even begun something.

You have to set your goals, then work hard in achieving them. It won't be easy. You'll struggle and stumble, but if you know that it can be reached, you're more likely to keep going and won't give up as easily. Be realistic when it comes to writing or anything else. Don't set a goal of writing four books, when deep inside you'll be struggling to even write one. Instead, tell yourself that you'll write one book, you'll push yourself to do it and not worry about the details at all. If you are a perfectionist, this might be the hardest thing to do, but the goal is to finish something, not to correct it. When you reach the end result and you succeed, you may not like your story one bit. You may want to just delete the whole thing or toss it out into the garbage can. Don't. Never!

With time, our writing improves, our focus gets better and we can zero in closer on what we want to achieve. That one horrible novel you wrote long time ago should be a reminder of how far you've come. When you forget about it, then someone does a review for you with a decent rating, you'll laugh when you go back to re-read what you've wrote. You'll see your own improvement. The rating won't matter to you. It's the end result that counts.

Writing is a journey. Don't rush to reach the end just to get it done and over with. Enjoy the process of it. *Wink*

'til next time!
