Every year we go through putting ourselves into our work, whether we like that work or not. This particular time of year is one where we tend to look forward to what we want to accomplish in the upcoming year. To do that properly, we need to see where we are, what we've accomplished so far, and then we can decide where we want to go with our goals in the next year.
We all have different things that we want to accomplish with our work. Some want to publish their work while some just do it as a hobby. Either way, we all have things we'd like to do with the work we create, so how far did you get on your personal goals this past year? Did you want to write a novel but only wrote half of one? Maybe you wanted to write fifty poems but managed seventy! This is all about knowing where you are now and the limitations you've had on yourself this past year with reaching your goals.
Here are a few things to watch for, think about or do, as you come up with your writing goals for 2015:
Make a list of everything you've made this past year and then make a goal to do even more next year.
When you make a goal, set up a timeline for completing it. This way you have some concrete platform to build your work around and you can achieve your goal.
Use your own judgement on whether or not you can really take on that goal you're setting yourself.
Look into reworking something from this past year.
Don't just think about the next year, think about the next five. Where do you want to be and how can you start taking the steps to getting there?
Push yourself into what you think you can accomplish while still keeping it at a realistic level. Don't burn yourself out trying to reach an unrealistic goal.
Remember to keep going forward with what you want to do, you have to recognize and acknowledge where you've been. Look ahead to where you want to be in relation to where you've been. This way you can push yourself even harder and accomplish more than you might not have otherwise.

Here are a couple of items that showcase some goals and have some focus for their new year:

My question for you this time: What are your goals for yourself this coming year? What are you looking forward to doing with your writing in 2015?
Question from before: What steps are you taking to market yourself and your work? What could you do more of in terms of marketing?
Quick-Quill replied: Just took a class at the Willamette Writers Conference and the man asked Do you write as a hobby?=Don't get paid. Do you write for as a business?=get paid=Then treat your work as a business. Write like its a job (you love) but do part time or full time and then promote it like it was the only livelyhood you have.
snason replied: I've published my first book and I am using WDC to help promote/market my book.
I'm doing this through Author trades- a free ebook copy and public review. I'm also asking bloggers to review my book on their blog.
Twitter, Facebook and my own blog are also helpful.
Reading and reviewing (product reviews) on Amazon and Goodreads is another way I promote. I've built an author page on Goodreads to answer questions that people have.
Last but not least, I've also left book stubs (free ebook promo code) on benches for people to find (the idea came from www.bookcrossing.com)
Elfin Dragon-finally published replied: Thank you for your insight into Prior to and after Publishing. These are things I've never truly thought of. I've been gathering information so I can eventually publish my work and this is very helpful.
