Does a perigee moon influence your writing? Does it generate ideas of earthquakes, grounded ships, or tidal surges that wash away cities? Does it make you want to write love poems about getting hit in the eye by a pizza pie? Does it cause you to wax poetic about the splendor of the full moon? Does it transform your characters into werewolves, dragons, or some other mythological creature? Does it cause you to build an atomic bomb shelter because you think the world is coming to an end? Does it encourage you to research this phenomenon to find out more about it?
According to Wikipedia, the official name for a supermoon is perigee-syzygy and it happens when a full moon occurs in the part of the moon's orbit that is closest to Earth. Because it is closer to the planet, a supermoon looks bigger and is brighter then an ordinary full moon. The last supermoon occurred on July 12, 2014. There will be two more supermoons this year, one on August 10 and another on September 9. Therefore, those of us who did not get a chance to see the last one can still witness the other two.
Native American's gave each full moon a name and each name had a meaning determined by things time of year it occurred. The Farmers' Almanac in Full Moon Names and Their Meanings gives the Algonquin names for the full moons. The July moon is called The Full Buck Moon, while the August full moon is The Full Sturgeon Moon and September The Full Corn Moon. How are you going to use this information about the supermoon and the moon's names in your fantasy and science fiction stories?

There had been a time when the old man walked the trail carrying his son, Joseph, on his back and hardly worked up a sweat. Those days were now only a distant memory. Once again he had to stop to catch his breath. How he wished he had those days to relive. Not so he would be young once more, but so he would never start his son on the path to take his place as the shaman of his people. Joseph’s youthful ambition to learn the ways and magic of his people gladdened his father’s heart in those early days.
I know you have heard my tale before, but I'm here to set the record straight. My name is Rumplestiltskin. All that happened in my story is mostly true. But there was no malicious intent. That's where my point of view differs.
It started out as a simple stroll through the graveyard....
I would like to tell you a story if you will take the time to listen. It is the story of how all this began. How I ended up here in Ireland, and why I can never leave. It is not a long tale, and some may even think it inconsequential, but to me it is the most important story of all.
On the 7th day, of the 6th month, of the 15th year of The Great Rain, High Priest Guymon Forde trudged through the thick mud and wet grass with the babe in his arms. The child’s screams as the rain came down in drenching sheets was frequently taken over by the crashing thunder and violent shaking of the trees from the wind. Forde tried to give what comfort he could to the babe, who had come into this world not even an hour ago, as he made his way through the Forest of Light towards his destination, The Hanging Rock.

Cubby writes: I attended a writing conference a couple of years ago in Lansing, Michigan. I met Jay Asher, who wrote "13 Reasons Why" along with other children/teen genre authors. It was magnificent! I was also able to hear editors and agents speak from well-known publishing houses. I was so inspired! If another conference comes along in my area, I would definitely spend some of my savings on it to attend! Loved your article!
BIG BAD WOLF Feeling Thankful writes: Sometimes life is lived through books.
Quick-Quill writes: I volunteered for Wordstock Festival and just found out there is a NW Book Festival. Its been going on for 6 years and I never heard of it. I'm going for sure. I joined Willamette Writers group to network with other authors. I need to get to know what they will help me to promote my book(s). Get involved. You will become a better writer and they will encourage you along your writing path.
