About This Newsletter

Trust. It's a complex thing. It can take ages to establish, yet crumble within moments.

This week's Spiritual Newsletter is all about the faith we have in ourselves and others.

Letter from the editor

Trust. It's a strange thing, isn't it? We want to trust others, and we want others to trust us. We're likely to feel offended if they don't. After all, aren't we good people? Why shouldn't someone trust us?

As much as I want to trust others, there are very few people who I genuinely feel love me no matter what, and will be there for me no matter what. I can count them on one hand, with fingers left over. Perhaps I am being harsh here. It is possible that there are people who would positively surprise me, in which case I am doing them a discredit. To be perfectly honest, though, I don't even trust myself – not 100 percent. I think that the day I trust myself that much, is the day I'll mess up, so it's best to keep questioning myself.

I have a tendency to be too open and honest when someone new enters my life. That is because I think that most people are decent human beings. Flawed, sure, as I am flawed and everyone else is flawed, but when you get right down to it, they've more good in them than bad. Most people mean well and often, when they let you down, it's because of unforeseen circumstances and not because of a nasty side to their character.

There are times when that assumption bites me in the rear. On the other side of the coin, I have given many people reason to believe I am untrustworthy during the course of my life, as I have a tendency to let people down. It's not something I am proud of. It's not something I ever intend to do. I don't think I am nasty, but life gets in the way, or I get in the way of myself, and that inevitably leads to disappointment all around. I can have the best intentions and then completely fail to live up to them.

The best thing I feel we can hope for are constants. There are friends who come and go, but a select few remain, forgive you when you mess up, understand you have your flaws, and stick with you regardless. Those are the friends who'll change you for the better.

For those who believe in a higher being, there is Someone who will always be there even if everyone else abandons them. That Someone drives them to become a better person, and I can understand this. When someone cheers with you during your brightest moments, and is by your side during your darkest hours, it makes you want to be as good, and as kind, and as consistent. It makes you want to justify their faith in you.

If only we could trust, and be as trustworthy, as that special force in our lives. If only we could believe in ourselves, and in others, as much as we believe in that higher being. I think that the first step in that direction is to recognize our own flaws, and address them. Become what we want to see in others, and hope that the improvements we make inspire a trust that is justified. The second step is to recognize that sometimes we may expect too much from others, and at other times too little. They're not there to be whatever we want them to be. They're not a reflection of our fears, either – if you expect someone to mess up or disappoint you, this will shine through in your interactions with them and make disappointment more likely. It's best to take people as they are.

As said, trust is a strange thing. It's complex. It's true that it can take ages to establish, and crumble within a moment. When you find someone you can truly trust, though, it may well be the best feeling there is.

Voodoo Shampoo Author Icon - just replying to the title directly, i think i've grown a lot as an author

and it doesn't matter how popular or how well read or accepted my stories are, i did grow as an author a lot whether it was acknowledged or not and i think i can say i am more achieved than anyone who merely maintained a good status or just continued gliding thanks to their popularity, i am happy and proud of my achievements for good reasons and that's what counts most as an author i believe.

The way you see your writing is the way I see mine. It doesn't matter how well read or accepted my writing is, either. I write because I love to write, and strive to improve. I do like the idea that perhaps my words will touch someone, somewhere, in some way. Make them laugh. Make them smile. Make them shed a tear. Feel something. That doesn't mean I need to write a bestselling novel, or win an award. Even if I just reach one person, and improve a few minutes of their day, it's all worth it.

Well done on growing as an author!

monty31802 - A fine newsletter Kittiara. My change has not been grand but maybe it is the 73 years.

Thank you, Monty *Smile*. 73 years is still young! I hope there are some wonderful changes still in your future. Unless you are perfectly happy as is, of course!

Tania Moreno Author Icon - When I was searching for faith about a year ago, it required me to take a few actual leaps of faith. I had to learn that "God is very good." These are words that stuck with me and helped me to put more trust in his plan for me, rather than being scared and just wanting to skip forward to heaven. To this day I still carry fear around with me. Social phobias, superstitions, you name it. But what's different now is that my insecurities are going away and I'm noticing changes. Those who don't believe that there is a purpose in life, or heaven or in hell, are often the ones who go through life faithless. Yet, I think its quite simple what we're on this planet to do. We are here to try and tap into the higher thinking that God encourages us to use. We are here to realize that life is about love, and being happy. I'm not talking love between lovers. I'm talking true love. Love of the self, love of life, love for the way things are and happiness. As long as you have love, and you practice love, and you do the things that you do out of truly the best intentions, then your spirit can flourish. 2013 started me on that path, and 2014, I'm sure will continue to move me in its tracks.

That is beautiful, thank you! I hope I'll reach the place you are in now *Smile*.

embe Author Icon - Hello Kittiara,
Thank you for a wonderful newsletter.
How have I grown by embe to share with you,
in this my new poem for 2014 attached with love.

May you find the answers in my words
as for the questions whether God exists.

Dimensions of light as symbols of divine reality
A vision in my mind blinded by a shining light
Seeing this wondrous architectural vision
Surely such a bold structure
Can only be designed
By God himself
With twin spires
Behind the facade
Built as a cathedral
From precious stones
For heavenly light at night
Where soaring pillars appear
Designed like strings of a harp
Surpassing human imagination
With choirs singing in the chapel
This most solemn perfection
For the kingdom of God
In this fine portrayal
The man in prayer
Holding his rosary
Depicting creation
In the Old Testament
Moses on the mountain
Points to the holy tablets
Describing everlasting life
The first sentence in the bible
God created heaven and earth
Our new beginning of humanity
For the salvation of this evil world
Devils will be doomed burning in hell
Only Christ almighty can save your soul
May Gods visionary journey bring you peace.

Thank you, embe *Smile*.
