Newsletter Settings
We set our newsletter settings when we first join the site, but how do we change them?
I am the kind of person who likes to set something once, and then never touch it again. For example, I have been a member of this site for 9 years, and I am still receiving the exact same newsletters I did when I first joined the site. Not because I don't know how to change them, but simply because I... haven't. I, honestly, can't give you a real reason why. I just haven't done it.
However, for those who are a little more interactive with their settings, there IS a way to change what newsletters you receive. I'll let you know how to do it.
Editing Newsletter Subscriptions
1. Click on the "Writing Resources" link on the left sidebar.
2. With the menu that pops to the side, choose the "Newsletters" link.
3. The fourth link on the resulting page says, "Manage Newsletter Subscriptions".
4. Voila! Check the ones you'd like to receive, uncheck the ones you don't want to receive, and submit your changes!
Some other great settings for the site can be found by clicking your username link on the left, and selecting the "Options" tab at the top of the resulting page. You can also find all of your community activity (including given and received reviews) under the "My Activity" tab. Under the "Favorites" tab, find all of your favorite items for easy access. The BEST tab, however, in my opinion... is the "Skins & Themes" tab. Beware of addiction to changing the site to fun and different colors.
This section used to be located in the Account Options, but I was unable to navigate to it that way anymore, so it seems to have permanently moved to the "Writing Resources" menu.
So, if you'd like to add yourself to some more newsletters, or otherwise edit which newsletters you receive, you know know how to do so. Have fun! |
Welcome these newbies to the site by leaving them some feedback for their items! I'm sure they'd love to hear from you. Don't forget to welcome them to WdC.

Feedback, comments, and questions from "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (August 14, 2013)" . Thanks, guys!
THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! said, "Hallo! Great topic for a newsletter. For newbies who are finding their way around and trying to meet fellow writers, these are helpful pointers. I'd like to add a couple, if I may - there's also email, of course! And reviewing. And maybe you'd like to add in-and-outs, interactive stories and campfires to the list, too. Thanks for an informative Newsletter! "
Good points! All of those are also great ways to keep in touch on WdC. Especially the reviewing, in-and-outs, and interactive stories. They are great ways to meet brand new people to connect with and find common interests with.
Quick-Quill said, "Thank you for this information. I had no idea about the IM or scroll. fun to watch. There are new places to explore."
Oh goodness, I think scroll was one of the first things I found on this site. Scroll is so much fun, and it is a great way to connect with others. (And get in some fun little mini-games for GPs, when they are offered.)
Helena Noel asks, "Are there ways to veiw all the public feedback and reviews for an author's item, or can they only be found on the reviewer's portfolio and the Public Review page?"
The owner of an item can see every single bit of feedback that has been given for that certain item, but someone else visiting the port is limited to what is seen on the public review page. At least, from my experience, this is what seems to be true.
Don't forget to ask questions, if you have them! I'd love to hear from you, as would all of the other newsletter editors.
Have a great October! |
