Contests: The Push You Need to Write This Summer!

For the past several years, I have been working, attending school, and barely writing a word for pleasure except in the summertime when my schedule was a little less hectic. This summer, thanks to "I Write in June-July-August Open in new Window. [ASR], I'm back in the swing of things and writing on a weekly basis again!

I really feel like contests are one of the most helpful tools for writers here at Writing.com. There's a tendency for some members to enter contests with the goal of winning--I'm guilty of it too-- instead of for the writing practice. There's such a variety of contests on the site that, even if you don't find one that's right up your alley, you'll probably find one that challenges you to write "outside the box" or experiment with a genre that you haven't before.

I know some of us take a vacation from writing when the weather gets nice, choosing instead to hit the beach or amusement park, but summer is the perfect time for discovering contests because there are plenty to be found! That's why I encourage you to take a look at the contests I have featured below, as well as "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window.. You may find one that gives you the push you need to keep writing this summer.
