Prompts, Flash and Fifty-Fives

Last month's letter spoke of writing exercises. I always say if I have to exercise, it might as well be fun. I love those prompted, 55 word contests and daily challenges. They're something you can write quickly, without planning - perfect for daily writing exercises.

If you need to practice specific story elements; such as imagery or emotion - search for them, and write something! It does us all good to keep practicing. You can find contests and forums for anything and everything you're interested in. If not, make one!

I've linked several of these contests below, and I urge you to enter a few; especially if you are nervous, leery or flat-out scared-to-death about showing your work. These are so much fun you'll soon forget about being cautious. They are wonderful ice-breakers!

Yep, if you have to exercise, it might as well be fun. *Laugh*

It pays to read newsletters. Now I can't let go of the idea to write a fairy tale from a different perspective! Thank you! It will be coming to my port soon!
You're welcome! You might want to click the forum fist of the Fairytale contest above and add it to your favorites. It sounds like a perfect match. Bolded for those who may not know how to do that. I know you do. *Smile*

Great nl Esprit!
I haven't been a newbie for a long time, but I still read this newsletter for two reasons: to review newbie work to encourage them, and secondly because of great writing tips like what you wrote in this one about writing exercises. No matter how advanced we may think we are at this craft, we all need to get back to the basics sometimes. Thank you!

Thanks, Mike! I read the letters for the same reasons. Aren't they great? *Smile*

esprit, I still struggle with finding my voice--writing, of course. Thanks for the fresh ideas!

Ah, the dreaded writing exercise! My fingers exercise every time I write! LOL

Thanks esprit!

Nanette, you're exercising your imagination. You need strong muscles in your fingers to manage all those daily challenges. *Laugh*

Thanks all, and keep these comments coming. We love them! We really do.
