Writing Makes the World Go Round

Or why I think that the pen is mightier than the sword.

What can the sword do? It can slice things into smaller pieces.

What can the pen do? It can write about every single thing on Earth and beyond. That alone proves that the pen rules them all. Even the ring. *Smirk*

Each time you read something (in a language that you understand), images get created in your mind. It doesn't matter whether the images are in relation to something abstract such as ideas, emotions, or math, or if they tell you epic adventures. As writers, we reach people everywhere. Maybe not every person on the planet will read what you write, but they could. In our connected world, our words are powerful.

Last week, I wrote that I hoped to see more new contests on the site. I got three responses from members who wrote me back, through the submission tool below, letting me know of their new contests. Additionally, I found three more contests that were created within the past three days on the "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. page.

I have never met any of those contest inventors in person. I don't even know on which continent they are, but their writing reached me. So, each time you write something here, you are reaching out across the whole globe. Granted, you typed it instead of penning it, but you certainly didn't sword it. *Bigsmile*

To all you writers, keep on typing. We're thousands, even millions at reading your words. Today, tomorrow, in a hundred years. (not me personally in a hundred years, but others will read)

In response to my last newsletter "Host a ContestOpen in new Window. I got the following replies:

Marci Missing Everyone Author Icon wrote: This article just might get me motivated to start a contest I've been wanting to do. I want to do something using different unusual forms of poetry with a new prompt and form every week or every month. Maybe watch for it soon. You never know.

Whenever you get it off the ground, be sure to let me know. I'll feature it in a newsletter. And, of course, post it on the "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. page.

mblank wrote: Thanks for writing about starting your own contests this week. You inspired me to give it a go. This newsletter is awesome :) "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.

Thank you for answering the call. Your contest is featured above.

BIG BAD WOLF is Howling Author Icon wrote: Of course, the trick is to figure out what topic will bring out the most entries, and repeat the performance again and again.

You know, that is a trick. All contests go through ups and downs.

LostGhost: Seeking & Learning Author Icon wrote: After reading the newsletter, I finally convinced myself to start my first contest. This focuses on stories and poems written for children and young adults. *Delight* "Words with WingsOpen in new Window.

Great. I've got it featured above. Hope you get some fun to read entries.

blunderbuss wrote: Thank you so much for this newsletter. I don't feel up to the administrative work of running a contest (yet) but I have already dipped into two of your 'picks' and found out, as usual, that they have fired me up to investigate other areas on WDC!

Whenever you're ready, I'll be here to give you some ad space in my newsletter.

Jack-check out 7YS Author Icon wrote: I just started this contest. Hoping for more participants and donations. Thanks for the opportunity to highlight! "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.
