This week: Welcome New Members Edited by: ~WhoMe???~ More Newsletters By This Editor
1. About this Newsletter 2. A Word from our Sponsor 3. Letter from the Editor 4. Editor's Picks 5. A Word from Writing.Com 6. Ask & Answer 7. Removal instructions
With clean, clear, and concise detail, this activity is set up to welcome new members to the site. Without having to join the group behind the forum, anyone can participate in the reviewing activity, which is set up to recognize WDC members who have been with us less than six months. In recognition for each review done, there are prizes and awards to be given out. NO, this is not a contest. You are not competing with anyone except for yourself. So what is the purpose of this group?
The main focus of this group, is to support and encourage those who review newbies. You can affiliate your reviews to any other group you like, just as long as you follow the guidelines set up for this activity. These few steps include:
Review a newbie who has been with the site six months or less
Use the following tag line at the top of your review:
Post your review link, back in the forum.
By following the above steps, you can earn GP's, and other great prizes, all while welcoming a newcomer to the site. What a great way to make a great first impression and work on your reviewing skills at the same time. How do I find this group? Simply click on the image above, it will take you directly to the forum. However, if you so choose, you can get there through here as well. |

In those first few moments of discovering the vast community of WDC, it is very easy to feel overwhelmed. There are so many links that can be clicked, thousands of new pages to be opened, and a variety of activities, contests, and more to create and participate in. One can easily get lost in the hustle and bustle. Due to the expanding roadways of this intricate site, many members have created groups and forums to help guide newcomers through the tunnels and pathways.
Through these groups we can learn how to post, when to post, and where to post. Reviewing etiquette and techniques are taught and encouraged, as well as kind acts and deeds. Below are a few of the groups which are offering these activities to members, and welcoming new members to the site, with open arms, while encouraging veteran members to do the same.
One of the longest running groups is "Noticing Newbies" . Here members introduce themselves in a cafe like setting, where people are dropping in at all hours of the day to say hello. Often times questions can be asked and directions are generously given. It is a no pressure atmosphere where you can get to know your neighbor at your leisure.
Another great cafe is the "Invalid Item" . This forum boasts a full list of places of interest to those new to the site. Learn where to go to get reviews; instructions on posting and linking, and much more. This page also highlights a few select items from newbie ports, for others to read and review. This is a very informal forum, with no strict limitations or regulations listed. With many dropping in to say "hello", and others asking advice on how to do "this or that", the friendly responses from seasoned members of the sight are very welcome.
Next we visit the halls of "Newbie Help And Support Group" by FrosTIGGY the Snowman . This group is in affiliation with "Newbie Welcome Wagon" , listed in the spotlight of this edition. This is a group dedicated to reviewing new members, of six months or less, and helping them navigate the site. They have separate forums for off topic posting and chit chat, as well as a group contest, and a support group. Members are rewarded for their reviewing, based not only on length, but depth and content as well. The groups intentions are to give new members somewhere that they can request honest, encouraging, and helpful reviews, while learning to review in the same manner.
Around the corner we have "Invalid Item" , I couldn't say it any better than their title, so let me share that again:
Inspiring
Newcomers through
Kind and
Encouraging
Deeds"
Step by step, this fabulous group walks new members through the basics of learning to navigate the streets of WDC. Learn how to create coding, and test it.Then get rewarded for following the tasks set up for you. Earn daily GPs as you complete good deeds sending cnotes, scribbles, and reviews, through their vine page. Stop in at the coffee lounge and share a friendly chat with another member. Introduce yourself and enjoy the friendships that flourish through this open forum. This is a group designed to encourage and inspire, through example and recognition.
Just down the road, we find the wonderful folks at "Invalid Item" , who specialize in helping Newbies to first learn WDC navigation and basic reviewing skills, then those moving on to the Advanced class, to succeed in their writing aspirations. Through review encouragement, cnote delivery, chit chat, and advice, this group takes the time and care to make sure you understand the basics of navigating the site.
These are just a few of the great groups out there for new members to this wonderful community. They all host great activities and forums for all cases and levels of this home away from home. Stop in and introduce yourself. Send a c-note of appreciation, or even help support one of the groups above if you can. All members are welcome, and participation in the community is encouraged.
