Letter from the editor

This time of year is SO perfect for getting involved and participating! My first year on WdC, Christmas is the time that I really saw the site come alive. From the special Christmas themes, to the "Secret Santa" gift giving, to games, to competitions - all of it just lent a lot of fun to the season.

This year is no different. There are so many ways to participate and meet new people, both for those who are just barely making their way to the site, and for those who have been here for some time.

Here are some ways for you to get involved in the Holiday Spirit here at WdC:

Change your theme:
In the past, there was only one theme for the holidays. However, with all of the wonderful upgrades that The StoryMaster Author Icon and The StoryMistress Author Icon have made to the site, we now have many themes to choose from! Here's how you can do it:

1. Scroll up to the very top of the page.
2. Hover over the top picture bar, there should be a little tab that shows up on the left side that says "Skins".
3. Farther on the left should be a little bar with a drop down menu. There are so many themes to choose from that you could have a different one every day, if you wanted.
4. When the season is over, pick a new theme to match your mood, or just one you truly enjoy. *Smile*
(I admit, I just randomly change them for the fun of it - I don't care what time of year it is.)

Play some Scroll Games:
Scroll games are a great way to join in on the fun, and earn some GPs along the way. Not only do you get to meet and chat with those participating in scroll, but the random games that pop up give GPs for those who can solve them the fastest. There are such a huge variety of games, they never get boring! Here's how you do it:

1. Open Scroll by clicking on the little icon that looks like a talk bubble right beneath your information on the left sidebar.
2. Wait until a green or blue game pops up in scroll - green means it is brand new, and blue means it has been won already, but there are still more chances to earn extra GPs and game points. Once it's red, it's too late, so try to be one of the first!
3. In the meantime while waiting for the games, say hello and participate in the chatter that passes by in the screen. It's a great way to meet some new people.

Participate in some Contests and Activities:
I'll even feature some in the "Editor's Picks" section, so they can be more easily found. *Smile* Contests and activities just seem to flourish in the month of December, having more than usual to join in and have fun with. Here's how you do it:

1. Look for a contest or activity that you might enjoy!
2. Read the information about the contest or activity very carefully, then follow them if you wish to participate.

Ask & Answer

pruenella asks, "If I have a story that is going into a little know issue of short stories, can I still post it here for the holidays?"

Absolutely! You can always submit to us, even if it doesn't match whatever my challenge is for that particular newsletter. *Smile*

This Newsletter's Challenge

New Year's is coming up - and many people around the nation either vow to make no New Year's Resolution, or they make far too many. Whether it be a resolution, or a promise to make no resolution, write a short article, story, or blog entry about a change you'd like to make in your life next year, or maybe even something that's worked out so well that you'd like it to stay the same. I'd love to feature it in the next newsletter, so send it in to me once you're done! (If it's a blog entry, send me a link to the blog and then just let me know what date you wrote it on in the comment portion - I'll find it. *Smile* )

Remember to use the box at the bottom of this newsletter to send me your entries, rather than hitting "reply". My inbox is frightening, and things have a tendency to get lost in there! *Smile*
