A day without laughter is a day wasted.
Charlie Chaplin
A sense of humor... is needed armor. Joy in one's heart and some laughter on one's lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.
Hugh Sidey
Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.
Mark Twain
All you need in the world is love and laughter. That's all anybody needs. To have love in one hand and laughter in the other.
August Wilson

A year ago I was working on a short story and I'd just gotten the couple ready for their first time 'together.' I needed the scene to be just this side of erotic, and yet loving, sweet, romantic and satisfying for the reader. It was a scene that would reverberate through the couple's lives and be far more important than 'just another love scene.'
Might sound strange, but I had to kind of work myself up to get in the mood to write it. I had soft music playing, candles burning, and a double shot of Bailey's just in case I needed some Irish nerve!
I'd written them up the several flights of stairs, negotiated the awkwardness of the 'Are you sure's and clothes were dropping piece by piece across her small flat. He'd just pushed aside her mane of copper-colored curls and discovered that sensitive area on her neck when my hubby burst into the room laughing and needing to interrupt to tell me some joke about bumper-stickers.
CeeRASH and burn.
My mood evaporated, the scene vanished from my mind and the candle sputtered out. Hubby headed back to the garage in a hurry. But it was too late. I slugged down the Bailey's in a minor hissy fit. The story sat there for a year. Just recently, i decided to rewrite the story from scratch as I'd discovered that while there was possibilities to the concept, it needed to be adjusted, played with and revised extensively.
Hubby was gone for the day and i didn't expect him back until long after dark. Cool! I had all day and into the evening to write. I reached a scene similar to that of the first time around. This time, they'd worked their way inside, built a fire and were in the living room of their cabin. Music was playing (both real and in the story) and candles burned in both places as well. My Bailey's was at hand--just in case. He was slowly, slowly lowering---
"Hey sweetheart! Guess what?" (^*(%^$_*(*^$!@$&^^$%) I looked up. The candles weren't the only thing burning any longer.
"Hon, remember that story i was writing last year?"
"Oh, ah, the one I interrupted?"
"Uh huh."
"No way. Same story?"
"Uh huh."
"Oh BLEEP" Not at the same place? Yeah, huh? I'm in trouble, aren't I?"
He headed for the basement, I downed the Bailey's. I wonder if these two are ever meant to get together!
