About This Newsletter

I believe in simplicity in introduction to new things and also that there is a wide variety of topics to be explored in this newsletter --Not only for newbies, but those that have been here for years and want to recognize newbies through reviews, etc... I think that the primary focus of this newsletter should be twofold: Just Here and Here For Years... I think that the title is so broad that this newsletter really needs to feature something for newbies as well as "oldbies". Of course, cohesiveness between the two is also important so that one does not feel lesser than the other. We are all equals here and I think the best way to convey that message to newbies is to let them see their work alongside "WdC veterans"...

Letter from the editor

Within seconds of laying eyes on WdC, it becomes blatantly clear that there are many different aspects to this wonderful website. One of the aspects that I don't think I've ever seen discussed is Community Notes, so I thought we'd just take a look at cNotes and why they exist. *Wink*

Unfortunately, in this case cNote refers to Community Note and is not being used as slang for a hundred dollar bill (Of course, you are more than welcome to send me that kind of cNote anytime as well!!!). Many of you have most likely heard of or sent an eCard at sometime or another. Well, that's basically what a cNote is, it's just the WdC version. *Wink* They are created by users and put into 'shops' where you can purchase them for a friend (Gps, not money). Most are very affordable and of high quality imagery. They cover a very, very wide range of occasions and tastes.

Why send a cNote? For the same reason that you would send a greeting card... just to brighten someone's day, to celebrate a holiday or birthday, or even just because you're bored. *Smile*

Why can't I just send an eCard from some other site? You could, but... uhh... that would mean leaving WdC for a minute to do it and that's just a horrible plan! *Pthb* Another reason to support the sending of cNotes is because these shop are set up by users to raise funds -be it for their own upgrade or for groups from around the site. By sending a cNote to a friend, you are not only sending a smile and brightening his/her day, but you are also supporting our beloved community. We all love helping each other, right? Well, sending a cNote is just one more way to do that. *Wink*

Where do you find cNote shops? On the *Left*left side of your screen click 'Things to Do and Read' then click 'Community Notes'.

Now, before I let you go I'd also like to encourage you to think more about your own cNote shop! Creating digital images can be a rewarding hobby -and it could help you raise funds for your own favorite groups or membership! *Delight* *Just remember that images used must be purchased or copyright/royalty free. Keep it legal, people... Not stealing the works of others. *Wink*

Okay, okay... Enough of my rambling! Go and make someone smile!

*Heart*,
Stephanie Grace

I love this shop! I'm known for my dislike of sappiness, so this is one of my favorite shops from which to send a smile. *Delight* (No... really... I only buy funny cards, ever. LOL. I get mad if my hubby doesn't get me something comical for our anniversary because I just don't do mushy --I don't even like celebrating the anniversary! LOL).

Ask & Answer

It's unbelievable to me that anyone can make it through my ramblings; I can't tell you how thrilled I am when people actually leave a comment! *Delight* *hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink*

From Itchy Water~fictionandverse Author IconMail Icon: What a great newsletter! This is a must read for every newbie. I loved how you simplified WDC as a whole. You even made WDC clearer to me, a veteran. Dividing groups by function was such a clever idea. You explained it consicely and without bias. I commend you. Great Job!
Thank you so much! *Bigsmile* I'm glad that my thoughts actually made sense to another human being! *Laugh* I think it's important to recognize the difference in things like groups so you know exactly where you want to be and don't end up in a group in which you just don't seem to 'fit'... As soon as I thought about doing a newsletter on groups, I knew I'd have to come up with some way of showing the different "missions" of groups... I actually had more, but couldn't remember them when it came time to actually type the newsletter. *Blush* Thank you, as well, for the non-bias comment! Being a leader of one group, having been a leader of a few others, and being a member of many (past and present), I was concerned about how that would impact the newsletter. Thank you!

From eyestar~* Author IconMail Icon: Another insightful and helpful edition Stephanie Grace! You covered the basics! I like your non-bias wisdom too! *Thumbsup*
Ohh.... another person that found it non-bias! *Delight* Thank you, my dear!*Kiss* You know I really could have written that as one big recruitment letter for one particular group, right? It was tempting! *Laugh* I kid, I kid!! Thank you for taking the time to comment ---and for givin' me a big old smile! *Bigsmile* *Heart*

From phillywriter71: I must say I too am inspired by the newsletter on posting everything. I felt funny at first since of my stories aren't written well just mere rough drafts. The other thing that I am really guilty of is deleting my stories after only writing a few pages and not being consistent with my writing. Since coming back to Writing.com I am working on a short story and plan on entering a contest this week. Anyways thanks for the great tips. I also plan on joining a group that is an awesome idea. Thanks again Ms. Grace!!
Thank you for your comment! It's funny to realize that people actually read my newsletters and that they could have an impact on someone. *Blush* Let's just hope I'm right about things! *Laugh* I don't think I've ever gotten beyond rough draft with anything --probably because I never go back; That is such a bad habit of mine... I hope you did well in the contest! Contests are a wonderful way to get the juices flowin' (and possibly bring in a pretty GP or two)! *Wink* Groups are wonderful with helping with your writing as well! I hope you've joined one or two (or five) by now! *Wink* Thank you, darlin', for taking the time out of your day to read my words and leave a comment!

From BIG BAD WOLF is Merry Author IconMail Icon: Sometimes it's best to have fun.
So, part of me thinks you meant to share a link with this, but it's not there... With or without a link, I think that's a perfect statement and great way to end this newsletter! Amen to fun! *Wink*
