Using your Signature Block to Promote

What is a signature block? It's a signature that is automatically attached to your emails, forum posts and book entries.
Here's how to set one up: Go to your account. It's the first item in the left column navigation panel. Be brave, click it!

There will be a series of tabs at the top of your account page. Click the far right one [Options]. Scroll halfway down your account options and click Manage Signature(s)

You'll find a field there for Default Signature (Email / Forums / Books) If you have a Premium membership, you'll have more than one. This field will hold 500 characters to use as a signature. You can link a signature image by using an {image:1234567} or use WritingML to make text colored or bold. Enter your text and click Update!, then click the text click HERE to test view it to do just that.

Now when you send or answer emails, this signature will automatically be attached and promote your item. If you're an active member and post in a lot of forums, this can be a good way to advertise your items for free. Be sure to change your signature when your contest or activity ends. Also, remember too much of a good thing can be an annoyance. Don't link too many images or items at one time. Personally, I find more than three small or one large image attached to an email to be too much. More starts to feel like spam junk mail. Be critical when previewing your signature block and just use what is necessary. It's nice to promote all the groups you belong to, but use rotating images rather than a huge block of pictures. You can also rotate item links. To rotate, put a comma between the item ID numbers like so: {item:12343565,7654321,1234567}

So, think about using your signature to promote your items. It's free adverstising space.

Last month's question: For what purposes do you use cNotes?

Response regarding last month's newsletter about networking and reviewing:
njames51 Author Icon: Spot on! I know when I first opened the door to this scary place, I was petrified. But attempting to do some in-depth reviews helped my confidence. I was better for it - a more concise writer, editor of my own lousy stuff, AND I was given encouragement and friendship by the senior members. Now when I make mistakes, I welcome the tough critics. I love to do reviews, and remember to be honest. If you hate something, let there be a balance between "I hate this junk" with "Hey, this ending was pretty darn good!"
