Letter from the editor

Back to School

I recently got a new job, working at a high school, and I've realized something I think I always knew: You never stop learning. My job includes sitting in on classes, and I'm finding it to be quite the learning experience! I'm learning the curriculum along with the kids (I haven't seen a polynomial in years!), I'm learning who Justin Bieber is (thought I could avoid that one...), and so much more!

Whatever our setting or goal, I think it's possible to learn something from every situation. Whether it's watching or participating in something considered to be educational, or just a random encounter with a stranger, you can learn and experience something new all the time!

Contests & Activities are no different. There are many learning opportunities from them! Here are a few:

*Bullet* Writing outside your comfort zone! One way to learn writing in a new style, genre, etc., is to jump right in. Learn by doing! You never know what you'll be good at until you try!

*Bullet* Read the other entries! Reading other works can expand your thinking and even improve your own style of writing.

*Bullet* Review the other entries! Reviewing is one of the best writing tools we have, which is one of the reasons Writing.Com is such a successful community for writers! By looking critically at other works, it can help you learn to look at your own in the same way!

Try it sometime - stop for a moment, in any situation, and see if you can learn something from it, positive or negative. I truly believe life is a never-ending learning experience.

Always keep on writing! And keep on learning!
