Letter from the editor

My Love of Musicals

I’ve loved live theatre, particularly musicals, since I was in junior high and saw a production of Man of La Mancha in Pittsburgh. Since then, I’ve jumped at every chance I could to see professional productions. I’ve seen everything from Riverdance on Broadway, to Beauty and the Beast, a handful of Shakespeare plays (some twice), Les Miserables, Annie Get Your Gun . . . the list goes on and on.

The one thing I wish is that I lived closer to New York so that I could see some of the fabulous musicals on Broadway. Pittsburgh has a decent cultural scene, though, and that’s where I’ve seen many productions.

Have you ever tried to write a play? I haven’t, but I’ve thought about it. I’ve read many plays (mostly in college) but that doesn’t exactly qualify me to write one. It’s always been the allusive genre for me, the one thing I never thought I could do. I don’t even know where to start, but maybe with some research that will change. I even graduated high school with someone who now composes music for off-Broadway shows! That just shows you that you never know what can happen.

While searching on Writing.com, I was amazed by the number of scripts and plays. I’ve included just a few of them in my editors picks this week. I hope they act as inspiration for anyone who wants to write one in the future.
