About This Newsletter

There was a day, last week or nearly a decade ago, that you typed "writing" into your search engine. You wanted to show off some of your poems, short stories, or maybe even get feedback for a whole novel. You found Writing.com.

Letter from the editor

Have you heard of the Perpetuum Mobile?

The definition of a machine that creates perpetual motion is that of a system which indefinitely produces more energy than it consumes. According to scientist such a machine or system is not possible to make.

Really?

I have been a member of this site for a little less than two years. Most of the time I was pretty consistent with my involvement in activities and contests, reviewing and writing. Lately, my off-site life had taken over and I saw my participation drop to minimal amounts. I remember logging in one day and simply looking at the public reviews page and being stunned. Writing.com never stops. In every 24 hour period hundreds of reviews are made, hundreds of new items get created, edited, and added on to. It never stops! Alright, I admit that you can't power your car on creativity, but what is going on here, the amounts of creative energy that come together on this site are never ending.

It doesn't matter what kind of writer or what kind of reader you are, there is practically no genre that doesn't have a host of items for you to read. If the contest you would like to write for doesn't exist, run it yourself. Sooner than you think you will find yourself in contact with people that have the same creative interests as you.

While you pursue your own writing activities, the whole community keeps doing what it does. Sometimes people complain that they can't do this, or that they can't do that because of some limitation in their mind. I think Writing.com is what you make it. This site and the people that log on here will interact with you commensurate to the degree in which you give of yourself. Most of the time you will get back a multiple of what you put into this site. One look on the activities page proves that this place never shuts down, never slows down.

So, scientists. Come by and tell me we haven't a system that puts out more than it uses! I dare you.
