It's summer time! During a trip to the pool, I started thinking of what to write about for my latest newsletter. (Can't just enjoy myself, can I? ) Racing a friend down the slide and splashing in the pool at the bottom just to be quickly shoo'ed back out by the lifeguards to make way for the next sliders, an idea suddenly came: In and Outs
If you're unsure of what one is, here's the blurb from the top of the In & Out listings: In & Outs are an interactive means for lists or rolling stories and will only show up to the last100 additions made by members who visited before you. Every time a new addition is made, the last addition on the page will be bumped off. It’s IN with the new and OUT with the old! |
. I checked the stats when I got home and was surprised to see how infrequently (relatively speaking) these are used. There are only a few item types that have fewer items (and half of those are available to authors with premium memberships and higher only).
I've seen quite a few uses for In & Outs, including...
Plug Pages
Group Stories and Poetry
Conversation
Contests
Games and Other Amusement
And a few things that just made me scratch my head with a dumbfounded look on my face.
So, what are the advantages and disadvantages to choosing an In & Out over other types of items:
Group participation is easy (no need to sign people up so they can post)
Many options to customize layout
Can be anonymous
Always changing
Owner can delete entries as needed
Information scrolls off the bottom (or top)
Can be confusing to set up (especially to customize)
May be hard to find people who want to participate
If for contest use: sometimes people search just forums when looking for contests
Creating an In & Out is similar to creating other items on here... until you get to choose the layout. For simplicity's sake, you can just choose "Classic" (or play around with the other styles)... but if you want to go further in depth and customize till you turn blue, you may want to check out "The Ins and Outs of In & Outs" [E] by Davy Kraken .
Go out there and have fun with them... and then come back and share. My favorite newly-created in and out will receive an awardicon and be listed in next month's newsletter. Make sure to submit it in the box at the end of this (or any future contests and activities) newsletter and put a note stating that it is for my contest. |
Have an opinion on what you've read here today? Then send the Editor feedback! Find an item that you think would be perfect for showcasing here? Submit it for consideration in the newsletter! https://www.Writing.Com/go/nl_form
