Welcome to the Contests & Activities Newsletter. I'm spidey Author Icon, and I'm your Editor this week. I'll be discussing Community Notes. Pay attention, as there will be a quiz on this. (Okay, not a quiz, but there is a contest! Read through the newsletter for details!)

cNotes

Community Notes (cNotes) are individual e-cards designed by Upgraded Members with varying themes, images, wording and prices. Want to send an e-card to another Writing.Com member? Then peruse our cNotes and find the perfect card for the occasion! A member will receive the cNote in his or her Writing.Com inbox without the hassle of leaving the community to pick it up.

A step-by-step guide to creating a cNote Collection

Step 1:

Click on "Writing" at the very top of any WDC page, and then click on "Community Note" within the Writing: Interactive Section. (Or you can click on "Create an Item" within the Site Tools selection in the Site Navigation Tool at the left of the screen.)

Step 2:

Choose a topic or theme. Community Note collections generally have a theme, from related images (like animals, music, nature, etc.) or related themes in messages (congratulations, birthday, encouragement, etc.). Or it can be a mix of all sorts of themes and topics. It's up to you! *Smile*

Step 3:

Enter the title and brief description. Rate it according to its contents, and select genres and keywords (to make the item pop up when members browse genres or search for specific words).

Step 4:

Write your item body, which can include information about your cNote collection like who created the images, if a group is benefiting from the profits of sent cNotes, etc.

Step 5:

Choose maximum recipients for the collection. Visitors can send a cNote to up to 5 members at one time. You must choose a maximum number that can be sent at one time.

You must also choose whether gps are charged per group or per recipient.

For instance, let's say you chose 4 maximum recipients. Charging per group would mean that a member can send a cNote to 4 recipients for the cost of one cNote. Per recipient would mean the member would pay gps for four cNotes sent.

Step 6:

Click on "Save Item."

A few things to keep in mind:

1. Adding images - Create your cNote collection item first. For each cNote, you must create an image item. Then click on "Manage Collection" to add images to your collection. You'll need to enter the ID number of each image item.

2. Upgraded memberships - An upgraded membership is required to create a cNote collection (but not to send cNotes). For information on WDC memberships, see "Compare Free and Paid Membership BenefitsOpen in new Window.

3. Gift Points - cNotes cost gift points (gps) to send to other members. The cost of each cNote is entirely up to the collection's owner. (Note that Writing.Com adds a service fee of 250 gps to each cNote sent.)

4. Intro - It's a good idea to provide some information in the collection's intro about the cNotes listed inside the item. For instance, "congratulations," "birthday," "promotion," etc. That way when members are browsing from the cNote listing page, they can find the cNote they're looking for without having to open each collection!

5. Subject - When you create a cNote, you will be asked for a subject. This will be listed in the subject line of the email the recipient will receive. Keep that in mind when entering the subject.

*Question* Did you know? *Question*

*Bullet* Each cNote collection can hold up to 10 different cNotes.

*Bullet* You can see where your cNotes are going! Under the "Manage" option, you can view the log by clicking on "View cNotes Sent Log." This will show a log of the last 100 cNotes sent.

*Bullet* You can also purge the log under the "Manage" screen, too.

*Bullet* cNotes can be sent to any email address, not just at Writing.Com! Just enter any email address into the recipient text box!
