About This Newsletter

Reading a horror story, one that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page, is what every horror fan dreams of. Being scared, to the point that sleep is almost impossible, makes the read all the more worthwhile. Does that make us crazy? You bet!!!

My name is Darkin, and I’m your host this week for the Horror Newsletter.

Send in the Clowns???

Ever since I was a young squirrel, I've been afraid of clowns. Not that debilitating fear, where you can't move a muscle if you see one. More of a "watch them like a hawk" kind of fear. Mostly, I think, it's because I'm convinced they are going to explode into clown fury at any moment. I can't even pinpoint when this fear first started, or who started it.

If my friend base is any indicator, there are quite a few people out there who are afraid of clowns. But like me, most of them can't tell me when that fear started, or why. But I can make some educated guesses about the why.

Makeup: I'm not talking about a lovely foundation that covers imperfections. I'm talking about a thick, white glop that hides who is really underneath. And don't even get me started on all those other colors. It's like a scary rainbow at times.

Poofy Wig: I don't care if it's rainbow colored, one color, or black and white. It's just too much hair sticking straight up. Makes me want to take a comb to it. *Laugh*

Big, Red Nose: Okay, this is another creepy thing to me. Why do they need that big, red nose? I mean, really, isn't a human nose funny enough? And some of those noses squeak and beep. Reminds me of Uncle Abner when he had to blow his nose...*Sick*

Brightly Colored Clothing: Usually, their clothes are too big and way to bright, with colors that in the regular world wouldn't be used together.*Laugh* They also have pockets that seem to always have something coming out of them.

Tricks: Often they have flowers that squirt water or hats that have things pop out of them. They let you get right up close, then BAM! Out comes the "surprise". How is that NOT scary?

Over-sized Shoes: This is a big one for me. I was always worried they would smash my feet with those huge shoes. Or smack my shins and make them hurt.

Now that I have had some time to think about it, I believe I know when my fear of clowns first started. I wasn't a young squirrel after all.

*warning - flashback ahead*

It all started when I was in my 30's, working as an accountant. We hired a new gal, who was a clown part-time. It wasn't that she was a clown. It was the fact that she used to speak about her clown persona in the third person, like he (yes, her clown was a he) was alive. It wasn't until a work Halloween party, when she dressed up as this clown, that my fear hit full force. She chased me all over the building so she could "make" me a balloon animal. I was certain she was going to make ME into a balloon animal!!!

*flashback ends - thankfully!!!*

There you have it, why I find clowns to be scary. And I was afraid of them long before Stephan King ever wrote IT. *Laugh*

Thank you for taking the time to read. Happy Writing!

Squirrels,
I can't wait to see 'The Happening'. It looks very scary but reminds me of the same premise used in Stephen King's 'The Cell'. Hey, is it possible they stole the idea? *thinks* Naw...Hollywood wouldn't do that!
