Letter from the editor

Happy Valentines Day to all of you with someone special. To the rest of us, it'll all be over soon! In celebration (one way or the other), why not look at some community notes. For those of you not familiar, community notes (cNotes) are Writing.Com's version of the e-card They can be sent to anyone: Writing.Com members and non-members alike. You can even include Gift Points when sending them.

After browsing through the selection of available cards (30 collections show up if you search "Valentine", which only includes those with the word in their title, brief description, or keywords), if you don't find what you want, you can always create your own. While it may be a little late to create a new selection of V-Day notes, the possibilities of other occasions are endless. I often get asked how to do this, so I'll write about that here:

To create a cNote collection, you need to have an Upgraded Membership or higher.
*Check1*Go to "Writing". Select the appropriate option and fill out the form. This will only set the title, brief description, and the 'body', and a couple options about how many cards can be sent at once. In this case, the body is the introduction, the part above the notes themselves.

*Check1*Make sure the images you want to use are already in your portfolio, as this will make the rest of the process go much quicker.

*Check1*After saving the new item and uploading your images, go to "Manage". "Create A New cNote For This Collection " will bring up a form to fill out to add your first cNote.
The "cNote Subject" will show as the name of the cNote and also as the subject of the email the cNote recipients receive.
The "cNote Body" is an optional field. This is sort of like the inside of a greeting card. You can leave it blank if you want or add a message. This will appear under the cNote's image when it is sent.
When you finish "Store this cNote."

*Check1*Repeat the process for each cNote you wish to add.

Some other things to note:
*Bullet*The Gift Point price will show as 250 Gift Points higher than what you put. You receive the amount you state and the other 250 is a service fee.

*Bullet*cNotes are listed in order from highest-value to lowest-value.

*Bullet*You can check your "Sent Log" to see how well your cNotes are selling.

*Bullet*Use your keywords wisely (when initially setting up or editing your cNote collection.) I suggest listing all of the occasions your cNotes represent if you can. (Thank you, Merry Christmas, Etc.)

My favorite example of an act of kindness that happened around me...I was recently invited to a pow-wow...and the experience changed my life forever. Seeing the sunrise with brothers and sisters was a moment I'll never forget. What I've done: I helped out of desire and not obligation. Love one another...it's a great feeling!
Thanks for sharing your experience. *Smile*

Good newsletter Tigger
cNotes are a very good source of encouragement and I am thankful for those at WDC who create them and offer them for sale to the community. A little encouragement never hurts anyone.

Thanks, Larry. Hopefully this newsletter will encourage even more of that encouragement around here!
