Letter from the editor

Beware: this newsletter is full of cheese... and I left the crackers at home!

Recently, the generosity of the community here on Writing.Com has been displaying itself prominently. With the news showing mostly stories of violence and movies... and the attention of most of those around me being on 'self', it has become increasingly difficult to remember just how much generosity really exists in people... until I come poking around Writing.Com.

I recently started up a project on here that has grown beyond anything I had dreamed it to: "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. . In this, any member of the site can submit a list of wishes, large and small. Then, others are encouraged to look over the lists and see if there is anything that can be filled. Some wishes are simple, such as for an encouraging email... while others look for things that are a bit more improbable, like world domination. (Currently, there are 3 members battling for that - eek!) In all that improbability, though, there have been some huge wishes granted: a laptop computer, upgraded and premium memberships, a house being kept from foreclosure... even a penguin!

I have noticed, though, that even the small things make a difference. Personally, I received a cNote in which someone listed 10 things that she thinks are great about me. While this isn't going to get me out of debt, cure me of any conditions, or make me fall in love, it surely made things much brighter... and encouraged me to share that same spirit with others (here and face-to-face.)

So, during the hustle (for some) of the last few weeks before Christmas and in the cold and dark that is chilling us all (at least in the Northern Hemisphere), take a few moments this week to do something for someone else, perhaps even someone you don't know. Who knows, maybe someday soon it will come back to you in the form of peanut butter fudge (available at "Season TicketsOpen in new Window. [E]), a helpful review, or a sweet cNote! (but even if not, it sure feels good, doesn't it?)
