About This Newsletter

N0TICING NEWBIES NEWSLETTER

Noticing Newbies Newsletter is geared to help members get acquainted with Writing.com. There are many things to do and learn. Our goal is to help you make your time here more fun and manageable.

Each week we select and showcase new items (poetry, lyrics, short stories, essays, campfires, polls, etc.). Exposure for an item (your writing) helps to bring you more rates and reviews by fellow members and the general public...of course depending on how much exposure you want your item to have. Some writers like to keep their work private. When your work does receive exposure, it also helps bring more member interaction, which will give you the opportunity to build new friendships. Remember, it is a two-way street...try to make an effort to reciprocate reviews.

"There's someone that you haven't already met, go introduce yourself to him or her. Walls and labels can't keep you from the people who are so similar to you in spirit. There's a friendly face behind every door if you pick the right moment to knock. Once you start your wave of creative outreach, it turns into a contagious force. People are waking up and smiling at each other, sharing their dreams without hesitation. This community is worth something."

Letter from the editor

Hello Newbies!

It's good to be back for another edition with hope that I fulfill my pursuit in educating ambitious writers with some information that may help you on your road to publication. If you are ready to submit your manuscript to a publisher, it is essential to research the market. I would recommend that you either purchase a hard cover at a bookstore or research on-line market news and publisher information such as:

http://www.amazon.com/Writers-Market-2007/dp/1582974276
http://www.marketlist.com/
http://www.writemarket.com/

It is very important to know what publishers are looking for in writers and the content they wish to publish. Publishers will tell you how to go about submitting a manuscript to their desired guidelines. So, it is crucial that you thoroughly read the guidelines...it can make or break your manuscript submission. Here is a more-in-depth article I wrote a few of years ago, "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window..

You can never read enough "tips" on how to market YOU as a writer, so please take the time before bed or during your break at work to research how to get an edge...here is some recommended on-line reading:

Great newsletter Laurencia, personally I have never heard of this songwriter that you have mentioned. But there also plenty more from every type of music that I havn't heard of.

You would recognize a couple of his songs, "Superman" and "100 Years". If you visit his Myspace link, you can listen to a few of his audio clips, http://myspace.com/fiveforfighting

Enjoy!

Thank you for reading the newsletter and look forward to your feedback.

See ya July 11th!
