Letter from the editor

Greetings Horror readers and writers,

I’m elizm446 and I’m your guest editor for this week.

I’ve written only a handful of horror stories in my time but I love the genre. I’d much rather read horror than write it though. I’m no expert on horror but I like it a certain way. What makes horror so great is the scare tactic, not the blood and gore. Blood and gore is always nice but sometimes you have writers just create a story full of gruesome details with no plot. You read it and you’re not the least bit scared, just grossed out. You have to scare the reader. You have to make them believe that no one is safe. Make them feel nervous when all is calm. I like moments that are completely unexpected. I like when I can’t predict the ending. Let’s face it; many horror story endings are predictable. I like when the author shakes it up. And darn it, I love it when the good guys get it in the end! You want happy endings? Go read romance!

I love horror films. Come on, who doesn't? Whenever a new horror film comes out, my friends and I like to go the last available showing (usually at midnight) and park as far away from the theater possible. It's great when you see something that really freaks you out because then you've got to make this long journey to your car at night. Plus, since the movie starts midnight, chances are it lets at around 2am. So not only are you walking half a mile to your car at night, you’re all alone.

I must say though, I’m disappointed with the latest horror flicks. They’re all about the gore and most of them have the same plot. And if Hollywood makes one more Texas Chainsaw movie, I’m launching a boycott. Give us a break! One of the best horror movies I ever saw on the big screen was back in 2000 (I think it was 2000) when Warner Bros. remastered and re-released The Exorcist. I’m talking about the original. Released in 1973. That was an awesome movie. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. I saw it with my friends and a theater full of people. There was lots of screaming. *Laugh* The scene that freaked me out the most was when the possessed Regan “crawled” down the stairs. It was just freaky. *shudders*

And that’s all the time we have, folks.

Keep it scary! *Cool*
