About This Newsletter

*Popcorn* "The art of art, the glory of expression, and the sunshine of the light of letters, is simplicity."
~ Walt Whitman

Letter from the editor

The art of letter-writing, once a cherished form of communication, has sadly faded into a relic of the past. In previous generations, penning a letter was a thoughtful and deliberate act to connect with loved ones near and far. Carefully selecting stationery, crafting heartfelt words, and anticipating a reply created a tangible and meaningful exchange. Now, in our fast-paced digital age, emails, text messages, and social media posts have replaced handwritten letters, offering instant gratification but lacking the personal touch and lasting quality of their analog counterpart. The intimacy and depth of expression found in carefully composed letters are becoming increasingly rare, leaving many to lament the loss of this beautiful and personal form of communication.

Letter writing can significantly enhance your creative writing by allowing you to explore character motivations, emotions, and relationships deeply through a focused, personal lens. It often reveals intimate details and inner thoughts that might not be apparent in other narrative forms. Letter writing also helps develop voice and perspective. It can be a powerful tool for generating story ideas and fleshing out plot points by providing a direct conduit for character dialogue and reflection.

Hmm, maybe having your characters write letters to one another will help you understand how they feel and what their motives really are. However, this may be a topic for another newsletter in the future.
