Abandon Ship!
Sometimes, a contest prompt seems interesting and a story idea comes right to mind. It happens to me often, my mind gets whirling and a story idea pops out. I'll start typing it out and then BOOM, it gets stuck. Personally, I set it aside and sometimes my inspiration will fire up and I can finish the work. But what happens when the story dies?
Now the deadline is nearing and nothing is happening? What do you do? You could try to start a new story, sometimes the combined ideas will generate an awesome replacement. Other times, it's deadwood, and admitting that the story isn't working is probably less stressful.
Don't throw it away! I find that rereading that space junk later down the road can inspire a new story, character, or scene. Hey, sometimes there's cool dialog in there. I've picked up a seven year old story and developed a novel with it. All is not lost. You might not have made it for the contest, but you're still writing and that's important too.
So, Write On!

I started writing down these questions and decided to start asking them in 2025. I will release one question per week (usually on Sundays). I will be doing this through at least 2026, as before 2024 was done I already had over 100 questions.

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (December 18, 2024)" question: Did you set goals last year? Did you meet them?
StoneHeart : Yeah, I survived the year... goal achieved
TheBusmanPoet : Made it to each day this year, so far. No complaints.
🌖 HuntersMoon : No... and yes.
The Puppet Master : Yes, my goal was to lose weight and I did.
S 🤦 : Yes, goals set. No, goals not met.
HollisFrances : Same as HM, yes, and not all of them.
joemjackson : Still alive. Might not be for 2026.
Tannus : No, and I don't see any coming for 2025. Well, maybe just one. I would like to make it through another year alive.
tj is ready for spring! : I did set goals last year; I set goals throughout the year. I'll likely set more goals in the future as well. Did I meet my goals? Some I did, some I did not.
jackson : I met most of my goals.
Seabreeze : I set one that I am proud that I completed: Read the Bible all the way through. I have read in the Bible many, many times but this was the first time I read it all the way through.
Thanks for the responses! L~
