Down Time

The holidays are here and often they can be stressful. I find when I'm stressed, it's hard to be creative. I cannot enjoy writing when my ToDo list is longer than my arm. The list is full of travel, gifts, and lots of food.

I take the time to enjoy being present with family and friends and revel in the interaction. I store the emotions and anecdotes for reference, which may or may not appear in one of my characters. I try to not take on too many tasks that add to my stress level.

If I have time to write, I'll jot snippets of story ideas, form a character framework I can refer to later when I do have time to focus and write. These snippets can be a lifesaver when I'm trying to write and can't pull up a basic character.

So enjoy, be happy and Write On!

This month's question: How do you manage holiday stress?

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 23, 2024)Open in new Window. question: What are your suggestions for helping members meet deadlines?

flash Author Icon: Use all the time you have. Even free time.

~Brian K Compton~ Author Icon: If it's something you can do when you think of it, do it.
I hate that nagging feeling and that other thing: forgetting.

Jay O'Toole Author Icon: Deadlines tend to add adrenaline to my writing. The Word Sprints during NaNoWriMo have helped me maintain my daily goals. Maybe something like that could be invented for other contests and challenges.

s Author Icon: I write deadlines down in a calendar app, so I'm given warnings on the computer - a day to go, 1/2 a day and an hour.

But I also set the deadline 24 hours before it is actually due.

TheBusmanPoet Author Icon: Stay the course and be steady. *Cool*

oldgreywolf on wheels Author Icon: Only drink from plastic cups when you know you're missing your deadline. The sonic boom of a passing deadline can shatter glass, but isn't fatal like a bullet.

Speaking of which, you also get a sonic boom with supersonic bullets. They only "whiz" in fiction and politician's statements.

Ann72 Author Icon: I mark my wall calendar. This is the only way to see my deadline every day, circled with a nice red marker. Works for me.

Hiatus Author Icon: A to-do list with a will to check them all out's of great help.

Dave's trying to catch up Author Icon: Stop procrastinating.

Raven Author Icon: Plan ahead, schedule the time, and put yourself into either a work or creative mode.

jackson Author Icon: Decide what is important to you, then set aside those things which are not important and do those which are.

Mouse says gobble gobble Author Icon: Don't commit to one. There's no schedule to my life unless I have to. Some of us are Pantsers when it comes to writing. I'm a pantser when it comes to life..

Underground_Man Author Icon: Sorry, my comments there were meant for the post after this one.

JACE Author Icon: Like goals, write deadlines down! And set reminders--I use my phone. In the fast pace of today's world, I don't assume I'll remember anything.

keyisfake Author Icon: Look forward to the finished product.

Thank you for all your responses! L~
