About This Newsletter

Hi ya! I am 🐕GeminiGem🎁 Author Icon, one of the guest editors for the Noticing Newbies Newsletter. Have you fallen down the WdC rabbit hole yet? No! That gif is not of The StoryMaster in a bunny costume. Don't believe it if one of the members tries to tell you otherwise.

H

ave you had a chance to poke around Writing.Com yet? Did you find yourself going from one activity to another to somebody's port, back to the review page, popping over to a raffle that caught your eye, then to a newsletter that dropped in your email, then...

Then you look up and summer has turned to fall. When did that happen?

The reality is that WdC is a large, vibrant, ever-changing site and it is easy to fall down the rabbit hole. If you find yourself going from one thing to the other you might lose track of what you want to accomplish here. Now, if you have the time and wish to lose yourself in the rabbit hole, I say you should go for it. Time can be a precious commodity and it is understandable if you need to find some focus to your time logged into the site.

Be mindful of why you logged in. Did you have a half hour to fill and just want to wander around? Did you want to make sure to answer important emails? Do you want to get some reviews done? Are you needing to get some writing done? Do that first. Once you feel like you got something accomplished, allow yourself some fun time to explore.

Another way to not lose your way on the site is to make use of the FAVORITES function. Let's say you saw an activity you would like to look at in more detail or a contest you think might be a good one to enter. Click on the item. Then look for the big "plus sign" in the upper right-hand corner of the page. If you click that once, it will go into your Favorites list so you can find it later (when you might have more time, right?).

Your Favorites list is on the right-hand side of your Writing.Com screen. You can organize or delete what you have in there to make items easier to find. You may find there are things you will go back to time after time and will want to keep and some things you will want to delete after you visit once or twice.

If time is tight, you might want to pick one thing to explore each time you log onto WdC. Did a discussion forum catch your eye? Go ahead and read it over and join in if you want. Then you can move on to that piece of writing you have been working on. There are just examples, of course, but it might help you to make the most of the time you spend on WdC.

Feedback from my last Noticing Newbies Newsletter "You Are HereOpen in new Window.

from Annette Author Icon
Really good newsletter with lots of useful links. Except "Blog Harbor from The Talent PondOpen in new Window.. It hasn't been active since 2021.
Hmmm...I was so sure I researched each link and there was something that was active with Blog Harbor. It is entirely possible I was mistaken though. Thanks for the heads up.
