About This Newsletter

I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.

I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me.
-Adam Brown

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
-Nelson Mandela

I am not afraid of death. I just don't want to be there when it happens.
-Woody Allen

Letter from the editor

I'm Not Afraid

Fear is a tricky thing.

It can be helpful, for example, if you're walking alone through a dark alley — your fear can protect you by telling you to keep your guard up.

On the other hand, fear can also be crippling — the opportunities we don't seize, the experiences we're hesitant to try out, and the stronger, better person we fail to become.

Whether it's fear of the unknown, fear of failure, or fear of success, overcoming our fears is one of the most important steps to personal development.

Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it.

There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance…Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life. -John Lennon

What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

Gotta call out some--not quite a whole log--of bologna, however well taken: if it sounds like writing, well that's where that language belongs.

Make sure it's well done and intelligible and doesn't go on too long. There are five voices, and we need them all; the deep voice is the most valuable, the rarest, but the Literary voice is appreciated in the proper proportion.
