Letter from the editor

"We are born in relationships, wounded in relationships, and heal in relationships."
~ Harville Hendrix

When we speak about our troubles and stress to other humans, they usually start problem-solving when what we need most is a connection, some understanding, and a bit of empathy. Most pets, especially most dogs, are naturally perfect at this and genetically wired to provide it for us.

If you have pets, it probably goes without saying that you love them and consider them family. The unconditional love that they give us in return provides comfort, companionship and lessens feelings of loneliness, depression, and anxiety.

When we think of 'love' stories, we are likely to first think of romance and love between two humans and rarely consider the love and support our pets provide us. Why can't we write love stories about what a special pet brings to our lives, or vice-versa? Not all love is the romantic kind. We love our friends and family; why not include pets in that category?

There are so many stories and books about pets and unconditional love. If you write a story about your beloved pet, don't forget to add the "Romance/Love" genre right after the "Animal" genre!

Here are a couple of beautiful stories about pets and love:

*Dog1* A Dog's Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron

*Dog1* As The Stars Fall by Steve N. Lee

*Cat2* Writers and Their Cats by Alison Nastasi

*Cat2* Mark Twain for Cat Lovers: True and Imaginary Adventures with Feline Friends by Mark Dawidziak
