Write On!

Last month, I shared the sentiment that reading helps strengthen your writing. Do you know what else does? Writing!

Some will advise to write every day, and it's probably easier than you think. When I think about writing, the first thing that comes to mind is short stories, or novels, or poetry, and, of course, writing those are great practice. However, I think much more counts, too. Writing a note to a friend, partner, or stranger can count. Even writing a grocery list can count! (Be as creative as you want for extra practice!)

It's probably most important to practice in whatever format you wish to excel in, but I think participating in any form of writing can help you improve. When you're looking for contests or activities to enter, don't stop at what you typically write. Look for mad libs, which can help you think of unique parts of speech, or In & Outs which tend to involve others' input, too. All of it can work to help you think in different ways to strengthen your own writing.

Practice can be as strenuous or light as you require. Sure, more rigorous practice tends to give better results in nearly any activity, but it's customizable to your lifestyle.

Sometimes, if I set too lofty of a goal (like writing a lot in one day), I'll want to stop altogether. If I allow myself an "easy" day when I'm feeling lower motivation, it can help me feel like I'm not breaking my goal.

Do you have a daily writing practice? What do you count as daily writing?

Take care, and as always, keep on writing! *Quill*
