Fans and Favorites are two unique features that often go hand in hand. As with most features on Writing.Com, you can find more information on each in WDC's Reference Guide, "Writing.Com 101Open in new Window..

Favorites allow you to keep track of those members and items that are of interest to you. The difference is Favorites are individual to you--no one else sees what Favorites you track. Fans, on the other hand, are Favorites that you choose to show your support for publicly. Fans may be viewed from the Fans tab in your Portfolio.

Let's chat about some special icons that bring Favorites and Fans to life.

Every User and Item displays a series of Icons opposite their name. For example, a User shows their Portfolio icon, an Envelope icon, a Favorite Icon: Favorite Plus icon, and a Message Icon: Instant Message icon, while an Item shows a Reading Mode icon, a Printer icon, a Favorite Icon: Favorite Plus icon, and an Envelope icon (which actually is no longer an active system in this mode).

Create a Favorite by clicking on the Icon: Favorite Plus icon one time, which changes it to a Icon: Favorite icon. Clicking once more on the Icon: Favorite icon creates a Fan, noted by the Icon: Fan Favorite icon, essentially changing from a private Favorite to a public Fan. You can toggle back to the Icon: Favorite icon by clicking on the fan.

Now that you know the difference between Favorites and Fans and how to create them, let's learn how to organize them for easier access. You can access your Favorites from a couple of places.

If you've created at least one favorite, it will be displayed on the upper right side of each screen page. Multiple favorites will be displayed with the most recent update at the top of the list.

Access is also available using My Account in the Navigation menu on the left of each screen page. Either, click on MY Account and select the Favorites tab. Or, scroll down the My Account pop-up menu to Favorites and select either Favorites or one of the sub-categories. Selecting Favorites opens a pop-up window called My Favorites.

My Favorites allows you to manage your favorites by creating Folders for similar faves and moving the folders into whatever order you desire. You can also search for a specific favorite using the Search box at the top.

Whichever access you use, take some time to check out any sub-categories to see if one menu strikes your fancy more than another. Sometimes the journey is more fun than the destination.

For more in-depth information, check out "My Favorites and FansOpen in new Window. and "Fans TabOpen in new Window.. Happy hunting.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet* Don't Be Shy! Write Into This Newsletter! *Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the Newsfeed:

From Emma Author Icon: Definitely either the email or portfolio section.

From Angel Wolf Author Icon: The Email section.

From THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! Author Icon: Email, newsfeed, notifications

From rupali: Email and Newsfeed.

And the Emails have it. *Wink* Honestly, that's my first stop.

From Nobody’s Home Author Icon: I've got my menu set up to send me to the Community Newsfeed by clicking on the WdC logo at the top left - major perk of having a premium membership, y'all! - so that would be #2 after Email, then Portfolio, then Writing.Com Tools *Smile*

The Premium membership really is the way to go.
