I have siblings who are Jewish and Christian, while I am a Baha'i. This year Passover is celebrated from April 15 to April 23. Easter is on April 17, which means Easter Week or Holy Week is from Palm Sunday, April 10, to Easter Sunday. I celebrate the Festival of Ridvan (pronounced rez-vahn) from April 21 to May 2. |

Having family members belonging to more than one religion has taught me that all religions have more in common than is often portrayed by religious leaders or the media. It also strengthens my belief in progressive revelation, which was revealed by Baha'u'llah. Progressive revelation means that all the Divine Messenger--such as Christ, Muhammad, Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster, Abraham, the Bab, and Baha'u'llah--were sent by God at specific times in history to help humanity.
Having family members, who are of different religions and celebrate different Holy Days, can cause problems. This is especially true when those Holy Days fall concurrently or in the same Gregorian month. There are two things to remember about your relative's and the Holy Days they celebrate.
First, when your relatives celebrate their Holy Days, they get the same spiritual feeling you receive when celebrating your Holy Days. Second, when your family members invite you to their Holy Day celebrations, they are not attempting to convert you. They simply want to share the joy they feel at these celebrations with you.
Unfortunately, because my sibling live in different cities and states, I will not be able to celebrate either Passover or Easter with them. Therefore, I will wish one sibling a Happy Passover, and the other two a Happy Easter. I will also wish my Baha'i friends either a Happy or a Joyous Ridvan. |
