"Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary."
Khalil Gibran
"What is a poet? An unhappy person who conceals profound anguish in his heart but whose lips are so formed that as sighs and cries pass over them they sound like beautiful music."
Soren Kierkegaard

Poetry and Mental Health
Lock downs, illness, loss—there's been a lot of it the past couple of years. This can take a toll on mental health. So how can poetry help?
1) Catharsis - I'm confident that most of us have used poetry writing as catharsis at least once in our lives. I use this as a way to release stress.
2) Exploration – poets have used poetry to explore feelings since the beginning of poetry.
3) Highlighting the source of stress or anxiety – Write about what is causing your stress and/or anxiety.
Mental health is as important as physical health. So, please take care of all of you!
Writing for your mental health helps many people, but you may need this and other therapies, or this guided by a professional or even not this and other therapies instead. I'm not a mental health professional (just a user of poetry and other creative arts for my mental health), so please reach out and find a professional to help you, if needed. Here are some resources to get you started:

Here is a poetry form to try on this journey
Dizain
The Dizain is around 400 or so years old and is from the northwestern European area.
MUST HAVES
--line count: 10
--number of stanzas: One unless creating a Dizain chain
--meter ~ syllabic: 8 or 10 syllables per line. Whichever you choose, be consistent throughout the poem. Many are in iambic pentameter, but this is the poets choice
--rhyme is in the following format: A, B, A, B, B, C, C, D, C, D
COULD HAVES or WHAT IS THE POET’S CHOICE IN ALL THIS?
--topic, theme
