Why is Black History Month important? It's important because it gives us, all American's, a chance to investigate and learn about the contributions African Americans made to the spiritual and material cultural of the United States. Learning about these contributions helps overcome racism, which is America's most challenging issue. I look forward to Black History Month because I always learn something that I didn't know before. This is because when I went to school very little was said about any of the contributions African Americans mad to the history of the world or America.
What are some inventions of African-Americans?
John Love - pencil sharpener
William Purvis - fountain pen
Lee Burridge - typewriter
W. A. Lovett - printing press
Charles Drew - process to preserve & store blood
Dr. Daniel Hale Williams - first open-heart surgery
Sarah Boone - ironing board
John Standard - refrigerator
Fredrick Jones - air conditioner
Alice Parker - heating furnace
Richard Spikes - automatic gear shift
Joseph Gammel - supercharger for internal combustion engine
Garret A. Morgan - traffic light
One of the things I'm thankful for this February, is the educational information my faith community sends to all community members who have e-mail address. The Baha'is of Las Vegas are honoring African Americans Achievements and Contributions by featuring short bios of African Americans. Today, February 7, I learned that on November 26, 1911, President William Howard Taft appointed Mr. William Henry Lewis as an assistant attorney general of the United States. This is only one bit of educational information I have acquired this month.
It's good that my faith community is helping its member overcome any misinformation about African Americans they may have. However, it is still up to me to make an effort to educate myself. The only way to overcome misinformation is asking questions, and searching for the answers for oneself.

Excerpt: The man was a man of his generation; too young for World War II, not so young to be untouched by the Great Depression. Yet I am unaware Martin Luther King, Jr. ever talked about the Depression, as my father and mother oft did...

Excerpt: A star studded sky on a peaceful night,
going to take my girl for a sweet delight.
Friday night is a movie, we agreed to meet.
Popcorn, a soda, listening to her laugh; a treat.
Excerpt: Let me propose that we ought to be able to agree that we as individuals regardless of sex, orientation, culture or skin tone are all equals. Now from this point moving forward look at the world against this premise. Do we have equality? Sadly we don't. This premise has been taken from the constituition of the USA.

Excerpt: The right to live
Not just to survive
But to actually live
Excerpt: I sit here on the edge of my bed. Morning just beginning to bring the world back into focus after a night of fitful dreams. I am poised on the crest of a new year full of possibilities, but with last year's darkness lingering and lockdowns and quarantines still a fact of life, I am finding it hard to be upbeat and motivated to create a wildly, vivid list of this new year's opportunities.
Excerpt: I delight to do your will, O my God: Yea, your law is within my heart.
Oh that people would see how good your will is to me.
Your words light my path so from your ways I won’t depart.
From sin’s curse of death, by your will I am set free.
