Letter from the editor

Be Kind

Some simple words, I know. But in these crazy times, it's something to receive and pass on. These thoughts came to me while struggling with a pile of boxes at the post office. I wobbled up to the door and a gentleman leaving the building held the door for me. A year ago, I would have thought it was a nice, gentlemanly gesture and went on with my day. But while standing in my socially distant line to go speak to the person at the desk through a plastic shield, I thought it ironic that man helped me and also saved me from touching one more door handle in life. That he allowed me to brush past him and get inside. It's a lot to think about and be grateful for.

Luckily, the internet doesn't spread viruses. Well, at least not THAT kind of virus. But we don't know what each person at their keyboard is experiencing or feeling. The biggest gift we can give this season is kindness. A kind word can go a very long way. It might be the only kind thing that person experiences that day...or week. So when you're here in our community, spread a little love.

All you can give here is words and time. But please, take the time to be kind. Even if you have to give some deep criticism in a review, be honest, but don't forget to be kind. And I don't mean fluff. Mention the things you felt need work, but also find something kind to say. Take a moment and look at your past reviews and interaction in our community. Could you have been kinder? Perhaps your New Year's resolution could be kindness. We all need it here, and out in the world.

Have a wonderful holiday my friends! *Heart*

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (November 25, 2020)Open in new Window. question: Do you review contests or activities? What do you look for and comment on?

Turkey DrumStik Author Icon: This newsletter on Dear Me intrigued me. Why? It made me realize I actually accomplished my one big goal, which was to quit obsessing over movies. I generally followed the steps in my Dear Me letter for this goal, and eight years later I'm feeling a small sense of triumph that I achieved this goal. I also realized that while there were specifics on how to address bad behaviors formed due to my obsession I did kind of quit cold turkey. I suppose the lesson for me is that a gradual tapering may encourage me to fall off the bandwagon and that a hard cutoff seems to work best. This was not the insight into my psyche that I was expecting in 2020.

Thanks for the reply!
