Merit Badges
Did you know that you can give a merit badge to someone every 30 days for free? Think about it, that's a pretty nice prize for a contest or activity. It's also a nice gift to someone hosting a contest or activity to show your appreciation for their hard work. You could award one to someone for judging your contest. Not only can you award them a virtual badge, you can give them a physical one to display in their office or home. It only costs 32,500 gift points to send one anywhere in the world! You can learn more about badges in "Writing.Com 101" in "Merit Badges and Achievements"
The form to send someone a merit badge is pretty intuitive, but take your time filling out all the details and make sure you have the username correct on it. You can add a message that will forever display with the badge. There are a ton to choose from, and you can have one created for your own special activity or contest. Just click "Commission a Merit Badge" at the top of the merit badge shop and fill out the relevant information. The cost is 500,000 gift points and you can have it set for everyone on the site to use, or a specific group.
If you receive a merit badge from someone and haven't gotten one in the last 14 days from that same person, your badge qualifies for a community recognition point. Ever wonder about those numbers next to everyone's name? Community recognition! If you click the number, you can see how it is calculated from referred members, review recognition, merit badges, awardicons and more!
So even if you're not hosting a contest, running an activity or what not, think about rewarding someone who deserves a little recognition for their efforts. It can go a long way to encouraging someone and a nice way to meet a new friend.
As always, Reward and Write on!

Due to our competition and the sheer fun of surprising our members with new things, we keep this list private. If you think of something else you'd like to see here, though... let us know!

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (May 13, 2020)" question: Do you send anniversary wishes on Notebooks? What else do you post there?
SB Musing : Any time I get a little alert that there's an Anniversary I try to leave a little message. I know I love it myself so I try to 'spread the joy' if I can.
eyestar~* : Awesome topic and good for folks to know about fans and favourite. And for Anniversaries we can also do anniversary reviews at the Quill Award winner "Anniversary Reviews" !
