Letter from the editor

What is bizzaro fiction? It combines satire, the grotesques, and the absurd with elements of genre fiction and pop-surrealism to create an entertaining and weird story. The name was coined in 2005 by Eraserhead Press, which is based in Portland, Oregon.

While the roots of Bizzaro fiction go back farther than 2005 and cover various genres, it is closer to horror, science-fiction, and fantasy than any other genre. This is a genre that not everyone will like, but if you enjoy the weird, crazy, unusual, and cult stories you will probably enjoy this genre.

I have read only one story in this genre. It was written by a member of writing.com, and I enjoyed that story. If you want to know more about it, you can find Bizzaro Starter Kits that cover the wide range of Bizzaro fiction stories. If you want more information before attempting to write in this genre, you search online using the term "bizzaro fiction". My search revealed that the rating range from ASR on up.

If you want to attempt this genre, I suggest doing some research. If you do decide to write a Bizzaro fiction story please submit anything up to an 18+ rating to the newsletter.

SB Musing Author Icon wrote: I loved the information about these mythical creatures and the differences between them. Thank you!

charitykountz writes: I love this - thanks for sharing details about leprechauns. My next children's book is about that very thing!

tj-Merry Mischief Maker Author Icon writes: I followed a rainbow yesterday, hoping to find a pot of gold at it's end. Instead, I found a hollowed out tree filled to bursting with toilet paper. I thought about grabbing a roll or two, since the Leprechaun wasn't anywhere to be seen, but changed my mind thinking, "If he finds out I took his wipe,he'll change this from fantasy to horror!."
