What a lovely poem! The rhyme, verse structure words chosen and tone are so very evocative! I could see the whole scene unfolding and feel every emotion you mention. Superb!

Suggestion:
This may be a bit of a tall ask, but I think if anyone can do it, you can. I would actually like to see this as a shape poem, using the physical structure of the verse and WritingML like colour (green/brown) and font, so that the look of the page gives an image.

Also (not such a tall ask! *Wink*) do pick one more genre, so that the poem gets seen by more people!
