MEETING THE LUNCH -TIME CROWD

"Uhm! Mrs. P?" said Sandy, noticing Phil's imploring stare: "Wouldn't it help him get used to all the other students, a whole lot faster, if I took Phil to the school cafeteria with me?"

"Hey! That sounds like a great idea. Could I, Mrs. Prittey? Please-please-pretty please!!!"

Sandy barely kept from laughing at the old elementary school chant. Not to mention, the look of disappointment on Mrs. Prittey's face.

"Very well," the teacher relented: "But, mark my word, Sandy! I'm holding you personally responsible for Philip getting to his next class, after lunch. If you decide to play your usual game of 'hooky,'and take him with you, I will call the police and have you arrested for kidnapping. I mean it!"

Sandy, struggling not to frown, nodded. Thus, off to the school cafeteria they went.

"Hey, Sandy! Over here! Who's your little friend?"

The girl who had called out was introduced to Phil as...
