This choice: You find Barney.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #4

Found And Lost, Again

    by: Unknown
You rush around the house and to the window that Barney would have been thrown from. There are a few bushes in the area that he could have landed in. He could have landed in the grass too which is why you are careful to watch your step as you near where he could have landed.

There is no sign of him at first. You are fairly certain he is not in the grass since you would have noticed a six inch tall teenager by now. The foliage on the bushes is so thick that you would have trouble spotting a person of Barney’s size. Then you hear a faint high pitched moan. You look in the direction of the noise, but still cannot see anything. Just as you were about to mark the noise off as something you had imagined, you hear Barney’s voice again. It sounds like he is yelling at something and that makes him easier to find.

When you find him there is a strange scene being played out. An overly curious squirrel has taken an interest in Barney and he is trying to get it to back off. Barney’s protests do not seem to affect the squirrel in the least since it is at least twice as tall as he is. The squirrel takes a quick look at you and does not seem the least bit bothered by your presence, people in the area must be feeding it and it is used to human presence.

You reach for Barney to rescue him from his furry assailant. When your hand is halfway to him Barney starts to shrink once again. You had thought that the shrinking process had stopped at six inches. Your own shrinking had been a pretty constant thing. This looks like a case of a drug affecting different people in different ways. He is decreasing in size much more rapidly than you did. It only takes a couple of seconds for him to shrink to an inch in size. This appears to have interested the squirrel even more in Barney since it picks him up and starts to run away with him.

“Come back here,” you yell at the squirrel. It pays no attention to you and darts up a tree, jumps onto a power line near the tree, and soon darts out of your vision. Looks like Barney is about to go on an adventure similar to the one you had on your previous summer vacation. He will have to depend on his wits, intelligence, and cunning if he wants to survive. That means you won’t see him again unless you do something about it.

Maybe you should go into the house and get some of the cake before you go looking for him. That way you could try to reverse this situation the moment you find him. Then again, the squirrel could be getting further and further from you as time goes on.

You have the following choices:

1. Go get some cake first.

2. Time is of the essence.
