This choice: Tom, the big blond bear-like guy • Go Back...
You end up on one end with Tom, the big blond bear-like guy. Up close, his size is even more impressive. His outward appearance is of lots of sloppy fat, but as he reaches down and picks up your end of the sofabed without apparent effort, you realise he must have a lot of muscle underneath.
“C’mon, Pete, lift with me,” he says, with the bed already hoisted in the air. “I can’t carry this alone.”
Looking at the bulging in the upper sleeves of his shirt, you figure that carrying the sofabed alone is something he certainly CAN do. Belatedly you grab the end beside him, as your Dad, Dave and Bradley raise their end of the sofabed with some grunting and effort. The five of you head towards the ramp off the truck, and the three on the other end take a moment to sort out who’s going first, and they move down the ramp very slowly. When you and Tom get to the ramp, Tom says, “I don’t think both of us big boys will fit. I’ll carry it down the ramp, but you jump down and help me as soon as you can.”
You jump off the back of the truck, landing with some effort, as Tom carries the end of the heavy sofabed solo down the ramp without apparent effort - except for his biceps, which have appeared through the fat of his arms, and visibly bulge under the load of the sofa bed. You notice that the seams on his golf shirt are really straining - the stitching is clearly visible! Tom gets to the end of the ramp and you swing back in beside him, your love handles bumping into his as the two of you guide follow along with the sofabed. You’re aware as the two of you walk close together that unlike your waddle, Tom really walks, his massive gut heaving up and down gently as he goes. You screw up your courage and ask him a question.
“So, Tom, do you work out regularly?”
Tom shifts the weight of the sofabed slightly between his big hands and replies , “...
