Ryan's two students made weak protests but were not inclined to stand up to their long-time bully. They hated to lose the interesting specimen, but they didn't want to risk taking a beating at Kevin's hands.
Kevin laughed at the two younger boys when they whined their wimpy protests as he brought down his sneaker on the weird bug.
"You're both such a pair of babies," he said. "Whimpering about some dumb bug."
Nathan and Jeremy watched Kevin grind his sneaker back and forth in the tall grass as the bully made a thorough job of stomping on the only interesting bug they'd managed to find so far.
For their unfortunate teacher, the moment had been one of almost unspeakable terror as the giant boy's sneaker crashed down on him. He expected pain, and he experienced plenty of it. But the pain continued…
After a brief instant of darkness, bright light enveloped the transformed teacher as Kevin lifted his shoe. Although his body felt massively battered, he remained miraculously alive.
Realization dawned. Kevin had stomped him, but Ryan's insect body had managed to find itself wedged in the tread of the boy's sneaker.
It could very well prove to be a temporary reprieve. The frightened, confused man knew he needed a plan...
