Abis sits in the swiveling chair beside Yolanda, his heavily booted feet up on the control board, his arms behind his head, humming some old tune popular in the seedy taverns on Tavis V. He looks to all the world as though is on some pleasure cruise. Not like he has just witnessed his parents die at the hands of imperial troopers, not as if he himself had just killed two men, not as if he had just escaped the total destruction of his home planet at the hands of the Empire.
To travel deeper then his physical appearance is not a dificult feat. He's not putting on some show of indifference. He's not actually drowning in a sea of despair and guilt and fear. He's wishing that he had a cigar. A nice fat cigar would do nicely right now. He keeps humming.
Yolanda is sitting rigidly in her seat beside Abis. She's stoutly trying to ignore him, she has never been good at this. She sees his uncaring posture, his stupid humming, she knows that his mind is probably lurking somewhere equally inappropriate. She knows her brother and is seriously considering stabbing his eye out at the moment.
Doesn't he care about anything?
There is so much that needs to be done. They need to decide where they are going to go, what they are going to do. They need to battle their inner-demons, they need to battle them now, this very moment or they will get stronger and eventually devour them. Yolanda knows that powerful emotions, once ignored, build fortresses within your own carefully built walls.
She is trying to come to terms with the death of her parents, of her planet, of her entire life as she once knew it. But damn that humming! She can't think!
"Get your feet off the control panel." she says, almost snaps at her brother. He does not respond.
"Feet off!" she picks them up and tosses them over the side. Abis does nothing. He's being unresponsive on purpose now just to annoy her. It's a game to him, they played it as children. Abis still had a miraculous way of making his older sister extremely pissed off. He felt that it kept her in her place.
"I can't believe you're pulling this bullshit at a time like this." she said in disgust.
"Relax." Abis said.
"Relax?" Yolanda almost laughed, the idea of relaxing now was perposturous.
"There's nothing we can do right now. Not til we get planetside."
"Abis we don't even know which planet we're going to."
"Sure we do."
"Oh, we do, do we? Well, it'd be nice if I knew which planet we're going to considering how I'm piloting the ship."
"There's only one logical place for us to go, my dear sister." he always called her that when he knew that he had though of something she had not, when he knew that he had the upper hand. He didn't have it long though. Yolanda knew where he was talking about immediately.
"Garner."
"Who else can we trust right now?"
"Alright, my dear brother." two could play this game. "Tantooine it is then."
