Scientist developes shrinking formula, and has a wacky idea.
This choice: Diego sees something tiny  •  Go Back...
Chapter #8

One Down

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
The tiny, naked scientist raced across his kitchen floor, well aware of the risk but desperate to climb onto his titanic teenaged neighbor's rubber sandal.

"He's my only shot at getting back to normal," the little man realized as he scurried like an insect, racing to reach Tommy before something unpleasant or nasty happened to him.

But in only a couple of steps, the teenager's stride took him across the room, even farther out of reach. The tiny man gazed up from the floor, seeing Tommy's huge hand reaching for the knob on the back door.

He had to hurry before Tommy's huge rubber sandals carried him out the back door and out of reach.

"No! Wait!" Mr. Smith screamed as his exertion caught up with him.

So, too, did fate.

Diego, his vision tuned to notice movement like the tiny man's, glanced down at the floor. He saw the jerky, scurrying actions of a tiny creature and his brain readily leaped to its programmed conclusion.

"There's a bug now!" Diego exclaimed in a loud voice with a tone of surprise.

Tommy stopped, his hand on the doorknob, and looked back toward Diego. He followed Diego's eyes and saw the pale speck on the kitchen floor.

Diego stomped across the floor until he was close enough to raise his right boot.

The advancing stomps from the giant's boots knocked the little man off his feet and, before he could recover, the enormous boot lifted over him.

"No! Wait!"

Even with the two giants looking directly at him, he could not make his screams heard to the titans, who equated his tiny size with insects.

Diego brought the boot down, and the impact hardly even resulted in much of a crunch.

"One down," the cocky young man announced.

Tommy laughed. "Guess you showed that bug who's the big man."

He then let himself out the back door, Mr. Smith's package in hand for the now totally unnecessary trip to the neighborhood post office.
