At this point in time, she could only think of two people who would appreciate this as much as herself. Firstly, she thought of Tessa, a real girly girl who is always being teased by others for being...well, put nicely, 'Blonde'. The only other person was Kate, a rock chick who's dark roots and satanic beliefs are always being questioned by everyone else. Jennifer reckons that both of these girls would love a chance to get back at their tormentors. But in the end, she decides to visit
Tessa. Honestly, Jenn thought Kate would enjoy it more, but frankly she scared Jenn a bit. Tessa, even if she became Jenn’s current size was no threat to her. OK, so where is she? Oh yeah, probably at school right now. Jenn imaged stomping across town and smashing the schoolyard, but she might crush Tessa or one of her clique, so she traveled to the school the slow way, shrinking back down to catch another bus. An unfortunate neighbor witnessed the transformation and she had no choice but to shrink him to ant-size and step on him with her sandaled feet.
On the bus, everyone was talking about her dramatic appearance above the town. Aliens, holograms, and LSD in the water supply seemed to be the three popular “explanations”. No one even glanced sideways at the girl in the blue swimsuit.
No one got a good look at my face obviously, thought Jenn. She got off the bus as it went by her house instead, and picked up a few “supplies”, including some Halloween costumes to avoid being recognized. After all, she might want to be normal sized again. She was beat and decided to lie around the house until just before school got out. Mom was at work, so she didn’t need to worry about getting caught skipping.
Speaking of skipping, we’ll skip ahead to Jenn arriving just outside the school. She saw Tessa leaving, so she got her attention. Tessa was wearing red shorts and a lacy white shirt. She had cute sandals with a slight wedged heel. Jenn herself had changed into Capris with the same sandy flip-flops she wore before.
“Jenn, where were you today?” asked Tessa earnestly, “Like, Mr. Reynolds was sooo p.o.ed that you didn’t show for your project. Did you get back late from the beach? Was it nice? Ooh, let’s go the beach next Saturday-“
Jenn broke into Tessa’s usual stream of unconsciousness conversation. “If you could be a giantess for a day, what would you do?”
Taking Jenn’s non-sequitar in stride, Tessa thought for a microsecond. “Oh wow, that would be awesome. Looking down at all the little people, acting like the Queen of the town.”
Encouraged by her response, Jenn set about convincing her friend that this was not just a fantasy, but quite possible. After an hour of no headway, Jenn saw her opportunity.
“Look, here comes Mr. Lewis. He always makes fun of you in geography, right?”
“Just because I got the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans confused!”
“OK, let me demonstrate the shrinking function.” Mr. Lewis never even saw the girls as the beam hit him. Tessa ran over to where the teacher once stood.
“Wow, where’d he go? Mr. Lewis, Mr. Lewis,” Tessa called.
Jenn strolled over, looking down. “Um, Tess, he isn’t going to answer you.”
“Why,” she said wide-eyed.
“Because you squashed him on the way over and he’s stuck to the bottom of your shoe.”
Tessa held up one foot to examine the remnants of her sarcastic teacher on her sole. “Oh, oh. That’s horrible,” Tessa exclaimed.
This was the reaction Jenn was afraid of. Even within her callous interior, she had some weak feeling that could be called remorse for her first crush. Maybe Tessa can’t take the cruel power of it all. Will she have to eliminate her friend? “What?” said Jenn, casually pointing the remote in her direction.
“These are new shoes! I paid $200 for these. I’ll never get all these nasty bits out of the crevices!”
Jenn smiled.
