The weyrleader sounded surprised at your decision.
"I concur with Gil's decision," said Drak, "Diplomacy is not a skill we are suited for, so therefore the battlefield is our proper place."
Lord Alucand frowned, but then flashed a grin that you didn't really like.
He got up on his chair.
"All right then, off to the front you go. Since you have not completed any schooling for the past seven years, though it was not your fault, it still remains that you are unqualified to be an officer, so therefore I am sending you off to the front as a private..."

Sometime later.
It had only taken two days by dragonback to reach the front lines, a testament to how far the Malthinae had advanced into Draconia. Before you had set off for the front, the weyr had taken great measures to ensure you looked like any other private. Your dragonwings had been tucked underneath your plain green uniform, and your sword, which was basically useless anyways, had been left with Drak. You had also been issued a standard infantrymans rifle, which carried a 20 round magazine, a helmet, a pack and grenades.
Drak had been assigned to the dragonwings, which meant that he wouldn't be accompanying you closely, though he would be covering your sector overhead. However it saddened you a bit, knowing that you were just like everybody else now.
The commander of your company was a young nobleman named Captain Ephram, who was about a few years older than you were, and was dressed as if he were off to a parade.
"Today," said the Captain, "You will meet the enemy in battle and thwart his advance!! If you should die you shall have gained glory for Draconia and be welcomed by the Great Dragons above!!"
Obviously, everyone who was a sergeant on down rolled their eyes. When you had first come to Draconia, you had been amazed at just how full of crap its nobles were. Some of them were even more arrogant than the monopolists of the CCEM, you had actually met one when you had played a slave, which you had previously thought impossible.
