Chapter #5

An apparating rivalry

    by: Unknown
You walked down from the dorm with the rest of your mates, met Hermione in the common room with a kiss, and walked down to the great hall for breakfast.

As you got to the entryway, a small group of Gryffindors 5th and 6th years walked up to you and Hermione. "Hermione, can we talk to you for a second? In private?" one of the members asked, looking right at you.

Hermione looked at you, and you shrugged. "Ill save you a seat Hermione" you said, and followed the rest of the Gryffindors into the great hall.

You sat in your usual seat, and began collecting yours and Hermione's food. Ten minutes later, she still hadn't shown up, and you began to wonder what was taking her.

"Hey there Giljaras" came a flirtatious voice from behind you. You turned to see Romilda Vane standing there, holding a goblet. "I wanted to personally thank you for saving the school after what happened during the Christmas break by giving something special" she said slyly.

This had not been the first time she had approached you in this matter, nor was she the only one. During those months in December when your relationship with Hermione, hadn't been...quite as firm, many of these girls like Romilda had fantasized how one of them would revel the experience of a sort of romance you had only reserved for Hermione.

If all they want is sex, why don't they just become servants at the weyr? I mean, most of the traditionalists there aren't fussy on who they screw.

"Well what is it then?" You said, facing her while pretending to be interested. Though you knew that whatever she had in the goblet had to be love potion of some sort. You actually think I'm that stupid?

"Just a special victory drink. Here try it!" Romilda said, pushing it towards your mouth with a quick arm jab. You had been expecting something like that, and began to quickly move your wings to block the goblet.

The goblet never reached your face. As Romilda was moving, you heard a shriek and loud smack, and Romilda went flying backwards and crashing onto the wall. The cup also when spinning, its contents spreading all over the floor.

You turned to see Hermione standing were Romilda was previously, her face flushed, wings spread in anger. "How dare you! Five points from Gryffindor!!" Hermione shrieked. You were surprised to hear a bit of a hiss in her voice.

Romilda stood up, her own face flushed in anger you supposed, her hand on her face. "Why did you hit me! All I was doing was giving Giljaras a thank you gift! I thought you were a prefect!" She squealed.

"Do you think I’m stupid! I could tell that what you had in that goblet was Amortentia!" Hermione yelled, her voice still containing a slight draconic hiss.

What she said next almost made you fall off your bench. "Giljaras is mine!" she cried, and it seemed all too obvious that she wanted to attack Romilda.

Almost the entire hall went silent at that. I better break this up. If I don't, we're going to be peeling Romilda, or whoever else who had the misfortune of just being there, off the walls you observed. You figured she was PMS'ing considering the particularly violent response.

You stood up, and placed your hands softly yet firmly on Hermione's shoulders, to both comfort her and restrain her if necessary. Her body quavered in anxiety, her breathing deep and rapid. "Ok Hermione, you've made your point. How about you sit down and eat?" You suggested, steering Hermione towards the table.

Hermione nodded, but her eyes never left Romilda as she ran to the other end of the table. The noise in the hall began to return, gossip about the two of you most likely, and had your breakfast. Though every now and then, you saw Hermione glare right were Romilda was sitting, muttering epithets under her breath. You hoped that Hermione wouldn't resort to having Hermy deal with that interloper.

Fortuantely, Harry and Ron showed up, and sat down next to you two.

"Heard a bunch of commotion just a few minutes ago" commented Harry, "What was that all about?"

You quickly shared (in thought speech of course or else Hermione might have gone feral) how Romilda had attempted to infaturate you with Amortentia, and how Hermione nearly disemboweled her.

"Oh, so that's why Hermione's glaring at Romilda like that" Ron blurted out, much to your and Harry's dismay. Her wings flared outward, eyes widening as if ready to sprout claws and slash Ron.

"Anyhow" muttered Harry nervously, "I picked up a flyer from the common room this morning, just came in right before we left"

He grabbed a flyer out of his bag and handed it to you.

You let out a whistle of intrigue while you noticed Ron grope his pockets.

"Ron!! You're not poor anymore" Harry reminded, nudging him.

"Well then!! Sign me up!!" you cried, thankful your 17th birthday was on the first day of spring. Hermione did too, yet her focus was still on Romilda and any other suspected 'threats' to her security. As of now, you suspected she wanted to apparate them away. You know, the permanent variety
