Chapter #3

Newtonian physics in practice

    by: Unknown
Kate was just a non-descript young woman who was working as an auditing accountant in her company's office in Saigon, Viet Nam. The building was small and old but basically clean. She was walking down the hallway, carrying documents to be filed, when she noticed a corridor branching off to the right that she had never noticed before. The corridor was void of features except for a water cooler. Kate suddenly found herself irresistablely thirsty. She dropped the folders and rushed to the water cooler, hurriedly drinking down three paper cups of water. She then walked back to her folders and, picking them up from the floor, walked down the hallway, thinking to herself, "That was weird."
She suddenly felt a funny feeling come over her and in a flash, instantly transformed to a fifteen foot giantess.
Sadly, the ceiling was only eight feet high.
Which meant that when Kate transformed, her midsection merged with the ceiling.
Newton's law is fairly specific that two objects cannot exist in the same space at the same time. Reality corrected this oversight on the part of Kate and the ceiling by dispersing their atoms.
The resulting explosion had the force of an atomic bomb, destroying Kate, the building she worked in, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
International investigators combed the area, but no evidence of the type of nuclear device used was ever found, and no one ever took credit for it. However, the international community took notice of the situation and decided that certain countries should probably not have nuclear weapons. These countries gave them up when nicely asked, or had them forcibly removed when they didn't respond properly to politeness.
