Chapter #4

The Wedding's Tomorrow?!

"I understand perfectly. Isabelle is young yet and the idea of settling down, especially with a complete stranger, mustn't be in the least appealing to her. I'm sure we can work something out"

"We are pleased to hear you say that Prince Hector. How about we take a little break and have some tea?" Queen Jasmine offered. She made her way to the door and asked one of the servants waiting outside to fetch them some tea.

"Yes, we are pleased. No king wants to renegotiate a contract and we were not sure how your father would react to our altering our deal. The last thing we want is a war." A few moments later the servant returned with a tray carrying three cups of hot tea and set it on the table.

"Don't get up your majesties. I'll get those for you." Hector dismissed the servant and reached for the cups. Now, no one in the room saw (and were you there you wouldn't have seen it either) but that prince put something in those drinks and he may have even said something under his breath, but it was even less noticable than what he did to those cups of tea. He only did something to two cups, and those he gave to the king and queen.

"Here you go your majesties."

"Hector, I've told you there is no need to be so formal with us."

"Yes, I apologize." He brought the cup to his mouth, but he did not drink. Instead he watched the king and queen, waiting until they have drinken the last drops of their teas, which they did shortly.

"Now, about that wedding," Hector said as he set down his cup not one sip short of his tea. "I'm not so sure I want to postpone it."

"Yes the wedding." King Edward was looking into his empty cup as if he could read the leaves a decipher his future. It didn't look like either he or Queen Jasmine were all there. They had blank expressions on their faces and their minds appeared to be in another world.

"Like we said Hector, Isabelle isn't ready to be married," Jasmine replied. "But we can try to talk to her."

"Actually, I was thinking. If she doesn't learn some obedience no other prince will take her, and things won't be easy for her."

"Yes, you're right."

"I am willing to marry her, but it has to be right away. The sooner we are wed, the sooner she will learn to love me. It is all for the better that we be wed immediately."

"Of course. The sooner the better." Their vocies were emotionless, but Hector wasn't put off by this. He looked pleased and he kept pushing the subject.

"I can organize all the necessary preparations, and we could be wed, why tomorrow evening. All you have to do is have Isabelle there on time, and convince her to say 'I do' when the time comes. Do we have an agreement?"

The king and queen nodded their heads, still looking off into the nothingless and meekly replied, "Yes."

"Wonderful. I am off to prepare, I trust that you will inform Isabelle of the good news." He didn't wait for an answer before exiting the room.
